Alright, so here's my story. About four years ago I started to have this discomfort under my right rib, almost like my muscles in that area were clinching together. I went to the doctor and they ran a blood test, a stool test, and an ultrasound. All three tests came back normal.
The doctor then reccommended a colonoscopy. I had this procedure, and everything was normal. The discomfort was still there. At this point I thought, well maybe it's in my head, and proceeded to go about my business. This lasted about a year. After that year I was tired of dealing with the discomfort daily, and my bowl movements had started to change. Instead of solid well formed bm, they started to be more loose, if not loose then narrow like rope, and always in peices. So I went back to the gastroenteroligist that performed my colonoscopy and explained what was going on. They ran more blood tests, and performed an endoscopy. The blood tests were fine, but the endoscopy showed some reflux. They gave me a perscription for omeprazole and sent me on my way. Cool, I thought, they found what it was, I just need to take these pills. Negative. The omeprazole assisted with the acid reflux but made my ibs symptoms worse. Horrible bloating and gas followed. My bowl movements remained loose, and in peices.
At this point I had just figured this was something I was going to have to live with, and went back to my daily routine for about another year or longer. Then someone mentioned that I try a chiropractor. So I did. They took xrays and found that my spin had a kink and mentioned that this could be pressing on a nerve causing the issue. Again I was met with some hope. I went back (and am currently still going) in the suggested intervals and they corrected the kink in my spin. I did feel overall better after this, however that weird discomfort under my right rib persisted.
The chiropractor then suggested I see a nutritionist. What do I have to lose right? So I meet with a nutritionist and they perform another blood test to check for vitamin/nutrient deficiencies, which I had plenty of such as:
> B1
> B7
> B9 (Very low, lowest nutritionist had seen)
> B12
> Manganese
> C
> Alpha-Lipoic Acid
I begin taking these as supplaments as well as eating more vegetables and healthy foods. It was also suggested that I might have a possible candida bacterial overgrowth and was given some strong probiotics to take. I took the probiotic for a couple of months, didn't see much if any difference.
With the vitamin supplaments I could definitely tell I regained a bit of energy, however the odd discomfort persisted. It is around this time that I began to realize that my brain has been pretty foggy for the past couple of years. Things that I used to just know, or be able to do I seem to have to put extra effort into thinking about to get the same result.
Back to the gastroenterologist. Another blood test, and stool tests. Everything comes back normal again.
A month ago I went to a kinesiologist and they suggested that with my symptoms I might have an intestinal parasite. I have been taking the reccommended supplements that the kinesiologist suggested, and have yet to really notice any difference (but from what I have read, if this is a
parasite then it could take several months).
Does this sound like an intestinal
parasite to anyone? The last stool test I took one was specifically to test for
parasites and it came back negative, but I guess something could have been missed??
Could this be muscle related? I work in a cube and spend most of my day sitting. I often think this could be what it is, but then I wonder about the vitamin deficiencies, horrible smelling gas, and unformed bowl movements, and then it doesn't make sense anymore.
I'll also go ahead and throw out that I had my appendix taken out when I was a kid, and an inguinal hernia operation (mesh repair) when I was in highschool.
If anyone has any idea what this could be other than just "IBS" I'm open to any suggestions. I'll put all of my symptoms below this message for quick reference:
> weird tension / discomfort under right rib cage
> brain fog
> bloating
> horrible smelling gas (strong sulfer)
> intestinal noise
> loose stools
> weight loss (unsure if this is from the issue or because my diet has changed so drastically over the past four years. Used to be 230, am now 195)
> b vitamin deficiencies
> anxiety
>
Depression (hard to admit that one, but yeah, this has got me down, things that used to be fun are not fun anymore and I spend a lot of time thinking about whats wrong)
