iodide adds to the volume quite a bit as well as the weight of the solution.
Iodine adds tot he weight but not much to the volume.
you must calculate your dry weight of ingredients and as you mix them add water to the mark of volume you desire.
lugols, for instance. is ten percent
Iodide so ten grams go in 100ml of solution. it will take less water than 100ml to make the solution.
SSKI is a saturated solution containing one gram per ml of solution. when i make that i put a kilogram of
KI in a one liter bottle. these crystals fill the bottle over half full! i dont know how much water i add to that becuae i dont measure it. i use the dissolving of the crystals and the one liter mark on the bottle to know when it is proper. the mark and the dissapearance should coincide with each other. that way, back when my sources were less reliable, i knew that i had proper
KI in good condition.
whatever solution you make, measure how many ml there are and divide that number into how much
Iodine you put in it. that will give you mg per milliliter. then count how many drops are in a milliliter using your particular dropper and divide that number of drops into how many milligrams are in that ml. bingo - mg/drop
