I have been fighting a parasitic war for over a year working with Dr.s and have spent thousands on office visits and many useless medications. After being labeled 'DOP' or Delusional Parasitosis, which by the way gets put into your permanent medical history records that all Drs can access.
(see link: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1121818-overview ),
which is like the Scarlet Letter. I finally found a Chinese Dr. who had heard of and seen all of my symptoms and without hesitation prescribed me Albenza. Even with insurance a 3 day schedule of (2) 500mg pills per day it ost over $500! Through further investigation,
This medication is on a very short list of medication considered EESENTIAL for GLOBAL HEALTH by the WHO. I have found that the United States is THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD that has increased th price of this medication over that the last ten years by over 1000% of what it cost in any other country.
(Albendazole, marketed as Albenza among others, is a benzimidazole medication used for the treatment of a variety of parasitic worminfestations.[2] It is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic, effective against roundworms, tapeworms, and flukes.[3]
Albendazole is used for a wide range of diseases caused by parasitic worms including: giardiasis, trichuriasis, filariasis, neurocysticercosis, hydatid disease, enterobiasis, and ascariasis, among others.[4]
Potentially serious side effects include bone marrow suppression which usually improves on stopping the medication.[2] Liver inflammation has been reported and those with prior liver problems are at greater risk.[2] Common side effects include: nausea, abdominal pains, and headaches.[2] It is pregnancy category C in the United States and category D in Australia, meaning it may cause harm if taken by a pregnant women.[5][6]
Albendazole was first discovered at the SmithKline Animal Health Laboratories in 1972. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, a list of the most important medications needed in a basic health system.[7] It is marketed in the U.S. by Amedra Pharmaceuticals, and by GlaxoSmithKline in international markets.[8])
This Dr. did not recommend a follow up visit due to th medications extreme side effects, nor did he inform me that I should do another tratment to kill the unhatched larvae of th strongylosis I was suffering from. When they returned with a vengence, I begged him to give me another prescription ( the max recommended is 7 days), but he would not comply and recommended I seek a CDC Specialist.
The problem with this, in Houston, Texas is that there are only 5 CDC Specialists that cover all of the major cities and hospitals in Texas and it takes weeks to get an appointment and you also need a recommendation by a physician. After securing the appointment that was set three weeks from the day I started suffering again, I hit the internet. Finally decided to take matters into my own hands.
So, I order (3) months worth of Albenza after finding this regimen (>60 kg: 400 mg PO BID x28 days, THEN 14 drug-free days x3 cycles), I treated myself for three months with Albenza...which by the way cost under $100. Granted, this regimen made me even more weak as I had lost over 40 lbs. in the month I was not being treated. I lived on the sofa, in severe pain. Due to the medication killing off the parasites, my body was being flooded with toxins they put off when they die. I thought I had kicked them out... Then they returned just they other day.
So, out of sheer desperation I tried Safe-guard 4 Canine Dewormer. The active ingredient is Fenbendazole. I took 12 grams mixed in with pineapple juice. The next day I took UltraGuard Plus for small dogs 1 tablet two days in a row. The active ingredient is Pyrantel Pamoate.
I felt very sluggish and tired the following day and stayed in bed all day unable to stay awake. My body was obviously fighting. That was yesterday. Today, I have abosolutely no symptoms! I am amazed. The packages recommend retreating in 3-4 weeks. I will definitely be doing that, given they stay away during the weeks between treatment.
Another OTC remedy for the creepy crawling sensations is plain old PeptoBismol. Three tablespoons seems to quiet them right down.
I realize this is unconventional. however, this has been my journey over literally the last two years.
I am not a doctor, so anything I have said or done to myself is by no means a call to action to anyone out there suffering from these beasts. I just wanted to share.
I just want to add that none of the 8 different Dr.s did any of the tests recommended by the CDC. If you need to ask your Dr. for these tests here is a weblink that can guide you on what to ask for...

Good luck to all!
I will update if symptoms return and when follow up treatment is taken.
