I will make this as brief as possible. Any advice is appreciated.
I have IBS-D and managed to get it into remission for the longest period of my life---we're talking 4 years here.
About 3 months ago, something went wrong. We had visited our daughter for a few days and went out to eat more than once. One day, as we were eating dinner, I suddenly felt full and almost nauseous. Of course, I stopped eating. After the visit was over and we got back home and got into the house, suddenly, without prior warning, I started to leak diarrhea. I managed to stop it and got to the bathroom. It was odd as I always, in the past, had some warning when diarrhea was about to happen. I will add that this has not happened since.
The following days, every time I ate something, my stomach would ache and I would feel nauseous. Sometimes I was convinced that I was about to throw up, start coughing and all that would come up would be some burps. On rare occasions, I would have some saliva come up.
It got so that I began to dread having something to eat. Even the thought of bland foods would make me feel nauseous.
I also found that some healthy foods no longer agreed with me, like soy milk or vegan foods made from seitan. So, obviously, I cut them out of my diet, but to no avail.
On top of all that, I got very bad intestinal gas plus diarrhea. It got to the point that when I had to pass gas, I would go to the toilet because I wasn't sure if this was just gas or not.
Often, it would interrupt my sleep as it would wake me up and send me to the bathroom.
Then, after about 6 weeks of this, suddenly my stomach felt better. I could eat what I wanted in moderation without my stomach rebelling.
However, the bad gas and diarrhea still remain. I love to eat veggies but have had to almost give them up. That said, just about everything is now giving me gas.
The only relief I get is if I take Imodium AD for a few days in a row. Once I stop taking it, it's back to bad gas and diarrhea.
I've been taking probiotics and now take an "80 billion" formula. Since I have type 2 diabetes, I take some herbs and supplements and have taken them for 4 years with good results where the type 2 is concerned. I've avoided having to go on diabetes meds. Plus, I've lost weight and go on the treadmill regularly.
If there is anything positive about my recent digestive woes, it's that I've lost even more weight.
I apologize for the length of this.
Does anyone have any idea as to what is happening with me? An intestinal virus, for example?
I would like to hear your thoughts because with my health plan, when I go to the doctor one of two things happen. I'm either blown off or they go to the other extreme ordering lots of tests (some invasive) and prescribing meds. I've found that if I go to the doctor and say "I think I have______" only then do they take my symptoms seriously.
Thank you for reading and responding. It is appreciated!
