Candida albicans are a species of yeast that normally reside in the GI tract. It is only when overgrowth occurs, or allergy to candida develops, that trouble begins. Candida is an opportunistic fungus that feeds primarily on sugars and other yeast-containing foods (foods that are aged, pickled, dried, fermented or cured). Actually, the problem with yeast-containing foods is that they are “seen” by the immune system of a person with candida as foreign invaders, hence triggering reaction. Overgrowth of candida also is caused by stress and the use of Antibiotics , steroids and oral contraceptives. It is the overgrowth of candida in the gut that can lead to a myriad of symptoms, and it is more often than not the cause of the latest GI disorder on the medical map, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Symptoms of IBS can include constipation alternating with diarrhea, gas, bloating and cramping particularly in the lower abdomen with unpredictable bowel movements and urges. This can be a source of much discomfort, not to mention the unhappiness that comes with a social calendar becoming contingent upon the availability of a bathroom. Typically, the dysbiosis (bacterial imbalance) that occurs with IBS starts with the invasion of multiple colonies of candida in the gut, followed by toxicity. Yeasts give off many toxins, like zymosan, which causes inflammation.
Research conducted at the University of Tennessee in Memphis found that zymosan is found to cause much of the inflammation associated with psoriasis. Another toxin called arabinitol is known to produce toxic effects on the brain, nervous system and immune system in animal studies. Numerous other toxins produced by yeasts may explain the memory retention problems, feeling “drunk,” hormone disturbances, fatigue and Depression experienced by so many with yeast problems.
It is worth noting that more than 90 percent of a healthy population is “allergic” to candida. How can that be if it normally resides in the body? The delayed hypersensitivity (Type 4 allergy) response by the immune system is what helps the body control yeast overgrowth. This is a normal and protective response to yeast but sometimes it gets out of hand. An immediate hypersensitivity response to candida (Type 1 allergy), which is found in approximately 10 percent of the population, can cause hives, asthma, eczema, chronic vaginitis, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. In these cases, immunotherapy with sublingual drops of varying levels of attenuated candida extracts successfully neutralizes the immune response, abating the hypersensitivity.
Other abnormal or unusual allergic reactions to yeast may trigger autoimmune diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis , thyroiditis or celiac disease. A recent study published in The Lancet showed candida contains a protein called HWP-1, which is similar in its structure to gluten. A candida infection in the gut can cause an immune system reaction to HWP-1, which then stimulates an allergic reaction to the gluten in wheat and other grains and may trigger celiac disease in genetically susceptible people. Under these circumstances, a gluten-free diet alone may not do the trick in relieving symptoms in a patient with celiac disease. A yeast-free diet with anti-fungal supplements such as Olive Leaf Extract, Oregacillin and/or medications such as Nystatin, Diflucan, Sporanox or Lamisil may be necessary. Other studies assert that candida is a sensitizing agent. Rats raised with regular doses of Antibiotics , when inoculated with live candida, were found to develop allergies to mold, dust and pollen.
Wiping out yeast overgrowth in the gut requires starvation (of the yeast, not the patient!) and elimination with a yeast-free, sugar-free diet and anti-fungal supplements. During this detoxification period, reinoculation of the gut with healthy probiotics such as Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics Original Formula, Culturelle or Vital 10 is critical. Dysbiosis caused by candida overgrowth warrants the consistent use of these probiotics so that bacterial balance may be re-established and healthy gut ecology maintained.
While both sexes with yeast overgrowth may share conditions such as sinusitis, asthma and joint pain, several conditions are exclusive to women, particularly those between the ages of 20 to 55. Among candida-aware health practitioners, the following are considered yeast-related health problems:

"When my Dad graduated from medical school 60 years ago this summer, the go to cough expectorant that was prescribed by physicians at the time was super saturated potassium Iodide ( SSKI ).
SSKI was an inexpensive and highly effective tool for deep rooted congestion that was beyond the reach of the cilia, the tiny hairlike projections that line the upper half of the lower respiratory tract, gently sweeping debris and mucous out of the lungs.
Old time pharmacists regularly filled prescriptions for SSKI although today, most pharmacists less than about 60 years old would likely scratch their heads should such a scr1pt be requested.
SSKI works spectacularly well for thinning and clearing mucous deep inside the lungs so that it is more easily coughed up. This function is very beneficial because when mucous is rooted deep inside the lungs, coughing is the only way to get it out.
When I was a child, my Dad would give us 4-5 drops of SSKI in a small glass of water or juice at breakfast time as a cough expectorant if we had any lung congestion. A few minutes later, he would instruct us to take a couple of deep, slow breaths which would immediately trigger a coughing spell to clear out the trapped congestion.
SSKI works very very fast to thin the mucous and act as a natural cough expectorant. As a child, I noticed that it would only take a few minutes and the ease of coughing up any mucous was very noticeable.
4-5 drops per day could be continued for a week or at most two with no ill effect. If a cough was severe, 4-5 drops twice a day could be used for up to a week to clear very thick, infected mucous.
Sometimes, after a few days of using SSKI, I would notice a bit of a metal taste in my mouth and that would be a signal to reduce the dose a bit or taper it off if my cough had resolved sufficiently.
For the past 3 decades since leaving my parent’s home for college, I have always kept a small bottle of SSKI in my medicine cabinet. Even though I didn’t eat very well in college and throughout my 20′s, I credit use of this age old remedy for keeping me med free during any bouts with colds or flu.
Other more expensive cough expectorants on the market which contain the drug Guaifenesin don’t work nearly as well as SSKI in my experience and these medicines are loaded with additives and other undesirable chemicals.
SSKI, on the other hand, is just a simple compound consisting of two elements: potassium and iodine.
Nothing else is added!
Next time you need a cough expectorant, why don’t you try SSKI?
No doubt, when you ask your doctor for a scr1pt for this simple remedy, you will get a very quizzical look!
It’s time to bring back into popularity some of these old time remedies that work great, are very inexpensive, and have no nasty additives – wouldn’t you agree?

This is a reply to # 2,183,564I love salted kelp from the store. It is like eating potato chips, but far more healthy.
It is loaded with minerals & does contain some needed iodine. We also love seaweed soup.
Unfortunately there is not enough Iodine in seafoods to detox our body from the toxins of Fluoride, Bromide & chlorine. See this for how these toxins take over every cell in our body to make us sickly and ruin our immune system.

In order to properly detox, Dr. Brownstein recommend his Iodine protocol for at least a year. Then after all the toxins have been driven out, and our cells are once again filled with iodine, we can drop down to a maintenance level of Iodine for good health. Do:
Drink green juice everyday! I drink up to 40 oz each day of fruit free- green veggie juice (recipe below).
Take Supplements such as: Oregano Oil, Gi- Synergy (by apex energetic) Candex and Colloidal Silver .
Take Probiotics. They are essential in balancing gut bacteria and the overall system. Make sure your probiotics are alive!
Take Magnesium Citrate with a lower dose of calcium citrate. Doing so will help keep your digestion in working order (Candida die off can cause constipation!)
Take your supplements at the same time each day. Consistency is key!
Eat a diet filled with Meat, Veggies and soaked non moldy nuts. (soak nuts in lemon or lime juice!) For those able Eggs, Cultured Goat and Sheep plain yogurt can be a great addition as well. Think high protein low carb!
Request a scr1pt for Diflucan from your MD if the yeast is spreading to more than one area of your body.
Eat lots of freshly minced garlic and coconut oil.
Keep a solid sleep schedule and avoid stress. Adrenal fatigue and candida can run rampant together. Keeping your adrenals balanced is crucial in overcoming candida. One can cause the other and they can quickly make each other worse.
Take your vitamins. Make sure your immune system has everything that it needs to aid in fighting off the infection.
Avoid any foods that you are intolerant or allergic to like the plague.
Drink lots of water!
Balance blood Sugar levels- If you are experiencing adrenal fatigue or blood Sugar issues Acupuncture may be hugely beneficial.
Fight your way through the die off period. It can be intense, and you may feel like you have the flu. But it means you are headed in the right direction. Brave your way through it. Understand that you may feel discouraged, depressed or too sick to do much of anything. This is normal, and it won't last forever!
Be patient and resilient! It might take time- months even. It also may get worse before it gets better! Keep up the hard work and you will make progress.
Take the time to learn what works best for you! We are all different, and understanding which foods trigger the yeast to grow is the most important tool you have in overcoming the infection.
Don't:
Consume ANY sugar. Even low glycemic fruit- especially in the early stages of trying to get the infection under control.
Consume grains and starchy foods. This includes the avoidance of Carrots, Parsnips and other starchy veggies. The Paleo Diet has worked best for me.
Avoid Coconut Water. Though coconut is anti fungal the water contains Sugar and will feed the yeast beast!
Do NOT take Nystatin unless it has been compounded to remove sugar. YES, sugar.. why they put it in an antifungal is beyond me. It caused more problems for me than it helped.
Avoid moldy nuts such as peanuts and pistachios.
Avoid all vinegar except for Apple Cider Vinegar. Limit even the apple cider variety.
Don't skip doses of your medication or supplements.
Don't cheat on your diet. One starchy, sugary treat can set your progress 10 steps backwards. You may find that you have extreme cravings for sugar and carbs! Don't give in!
Research shows that many health problems, including yeast and cancer flourish in an acidic environment. Green juice helps to create a much healthier alkaline internal balance- one that does not allow the yeast the flourish. I know I noticed a difference in my symptoms right away when I started to guzzle my green juice. Not only did I feel the yeast subsiding, but I also felt my system start to effectively detox. My die off symptoms were not as brutal! My energy levels came back to a much better place, and my adrenal and blood sugar issues quickly balanced out. Fresh green juice is a powerful healing tool- one that I'll be clinging to for a long time to come!

Lettuce/ Collard Greens/ Kale/ Swiss Chard

The influence of different fructose concentrations (5, 3, 1 and 0 g/l) was tested on Germ Tube (GT) production by Candida albicans strain AS3P, using a Minimal Synthetic Medium (MSM) without (NH4)2SO4. The results obtained showed good GT production in the presence of all the different fructose concentrations and in the absence of any nitrogen source. The greatest GT production was obtained with 3 g/l of fructose vs 1 g/l of glucose, after 4 hr of incubation. On the other hand fructose consumption was lower than that of glucose at all concentrations over the 4 hour period. He is techically correct. Fruit does include natural sugars and all forms of Sugar feed the beast.
Fruit also has valuable vitamins, minerals that feed our immune system. So I am going to take the position that a little fruit is ok, but in limited amounts and DEFINITELY no fruit juices.

grizz can you go into detail a bit more about ec? it seems like its such a harsh condition to cure and no one really knows wtf it is? i dont understand how to beat it so far my current plan is through natural remedies.. i am on a strict diet no gluten, no dairy no nightshades no sugar(except fruit) no alcohol. i take vit d3 vit c probiotics vit b i also take slippery elm and l-glutamine. my natropath has also put me on a detox plan i excercise all this for 5 months and still no results or improvenemtns why am i not seeing results? i also suffer from seb derm only on my moustache area. can you please help me!

This is a reply to # 2,183,706Yall should google, low dose naltrexone, or LDN. Do a little research. A couple of us are convinced enough to try it. Although it is a drug, it is one of few that is endorsed by the Naturopaths, and other natural health care practitioners. I could post many links, but you can research it and decide for your self.
When you brought up candida as an immune disease, I felt I had to speak up. One of us has begun with immediate improvement and the other is waiting to begin.
But, us withstanding, there is a wealth of info on it already published. Increased T cells, Every imaginable endorphin, so many names, and an overhaul basically on your entire immune system. Fascinating.
Even the tough conditions like pancreatic cancer and MS are responding. But, so are most diseases.
No supplement can mimic its actions, but some may be good adjuncts.
I went from 0 to 60 by buying a new business where I take care of people. I have to feel good. By the way, it alleviates depression, improves mood, increases energy among its other effects. Not the drug but your body's reaction to improved function--a side effect. I hope with both of us who are trying it that we get good results. Pray for us please(:

I know that some fill a 50mL medicine bottle (w/dropper) with distilled water, then dissolve the 50mg Naltrexone Hcl to make LDN. Shake gently each time before taking, and work up to 5 drops. ( 1 mg per drop )
I have not done the dosage calculations lately, but one can make as low a dose as desired with a dropper.
You may suspect that most doctors likely have never heard of LDN.

I do think LDN is worth a try for autoimmune patients. My own results were not that great, although I did feel it lowered my pain a little and allowed me to sleep a great deal better.
However, I have a close friend with MS who tried it (he is a physician and actually prescribed it for me after his results) and he had a dramatic improvement in a couple of his most troublesome symptoms. He was not cured, stays on his prescription meds, and still has issues, but was ecstatic with the results.
I had no side effect and neither did he.

There can be no doubt that Candida is an autoimmune disease because it exhibits so many wild & crazy symptoms INCLUDING traditional autoimmune disease, and LDN fits the bill fot immune system support.

Yeah but does this kill the candidia or does it prove and strengthen the immune system for it to kill the candida and candida is a fungus so if ec is related to a form of seb derm/ eczema/ Psoriasis it could clear ec also? There are no "cures" for any of the symptoms of Candida/iodine deficiency. Doctors recommend expensive surgery for the deficiency diseases of Fibrocystic Breasts, PCOS, uterus fibroids where these are cured with iodine. Doctors recommend expensive drugs for thyroid, prostate, brain fog, asthma that are cured with iodine.

Everything I discuss in this forum is to boost the immune system, including LDN and iodine. Then when the immune system is healthy, it will learn to attack the Candida instead of our own body. This is like asking a doctor to cure rickets. He can't because the only cure is to replenish the missing vitamin that causes rickets.
As I see it, Candida and all of the Candida symptoms including Autoimmune Disease are the result of a VERY SICKLY immune system.
Here is the BIG DEAL. Where is MOST of our immune system located? It is located in the intestines, and that is what the antibiotics have destroyed! This is very simple. Antibiotics destroy our immune system. Now our primary focus should be on restoring the health of our immune system, and this requires iodine & an extremely nutritious diet with raw veggy smoothies. LDN will help.

2. craving for simple carbs, although I'm 99% of time avoid them.
3. cold hands, but I always had it, years before the BO started.
4. hair loss, although it's probably age related.

Candida albicans are a species of yeast that normally reside in the GI tract. It is only wheN THE YEAST CANDIDA MORPHS INTO A FUNGUS, that trouble begins. Candida is an opportunistic fungAL PATHOGEN that feeds primarily on sugars and other yeast-containing foods (foods that are aged, pickled, dried, fermented or cured). FUNGAL MORPHING of candida also is caused by the use of Antibiotics , steroids and oral contraceptives. ALSO PUBERTY, PREGNANCY AND THE MENOPAUSE AND IN MEN BY PUMPING IRON AND ASSOCIATED STEROID USE. It is the FUNGAL FORM of candida in the gut that can lead to a myriad of symptoms, and it is more often than not the cause of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Symptoms of IBS can include constipation alternating with diarrhea, gas, bloating and cramping particularly in the lower abdomen with unpredictable bowel movements and urges. Typically, the dysbiosis (bacterial imbalance) that occurs with IBS starts with the invasion of multiple colonies of candida in the gut, followed by toxicity. Yeasts AND FUNGI (‘DERMATOPHYTES’) give off many toxins, like zymosan, which causes inflammation.
Research conducted at the University of Tennessee in Memphis found that zymosan is found to cause much of the inflammation associated with psoriasis. Another toxin called arabinitol is known to produce toxic effects on the brain, nervous system and immune system in animal studies. Numerous other toxins produced by yeasts AND FUNGI may explain the memory retention problems, feeling “drunk,” hormone disturbances, fatigue and Depression experienced by so many with yeast problems.
It is worth noting that more than 90 percent of a healthy population is “allergic” to FUNGAL candida. The delayed hypersensitivity (Type 4 allergy) response by the immune system is a normal and protective response to yeast but sometimes it gets out of hand. An immediate hypersensitivity response to candida (Type 1 allergy), which is found in approximately 10 percent of the population, BOTH can cause hives, asthma, eczema, chronic vaginitis, abdominal cramps and diarrhea.
Other allergic reactions to FUNGAL DERMATOPHYTES may trigger autoimmune diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis , thyroiditis or celiac disease. A recent study published in The Lancet showed candida contains a protein called HWP-1, which is similar in its structure to gluten. A candida infection in the gut can cause an immune system reaction to HWP-1, which then stimulates an allergic reaction to the gluten in wheat and other grains and may trigger celiac disease in genetically susceptible people. Under these circumstances, a gluten-free diet alone may not do the trick in relieving symptoms in a patient with celiac disease. A LOW CARB/ATKINS/PALEO diet with anti-fungal supplements such as Olive Leaf Extract, Oregacillin and/or medications such as Nystatin, Diflucan, Sporanox or Lamisil may be necessary. Other studies assert that candida is a sensitizing agent. Rats raised with regular doses of Antibiotics , when inoculated with live candida, were found to develop allergies to mold, dust and pollen.
Wiping out THE DERMATOPHYTE PATHOGENS in the gut requires starvation (of the DERMATOPHYTES, not the patient!) and elimination with a yeast-free, sugar-free diet and anti-fungal supplements.Reinoculation of the gut with healthy MICROBIOTA FROM FAECES HAS PROVED VERY SUCCESSFUL (SEE THE POWER OF POOP) Dysbiosis caused by FUNGAL candida IS IMPLICATED IN THE FOLLOWING:
