Hoping someone might have some experience with dogs and thyroid problems. We started supplementing the dog with Lugo's Solution a couple weeks ago. Within a few days our dog started having seizures. We've read that 77% of dogs with seizure have hypothyroidism.
We are wondering if the Iodine might have triggered the seizures. The dog is 60 lbs and was getting a couple drops of 2% Lugo's each day prior to the seizures. We stopped the iodine, but the seizures are getting worse. The vets are not suggesting anything correlating to the thyroid and know virtually nothing about iodine.
Anyone heard of a connection between Iodine and seizures in dogs?

This is a reply to # 2,179,581I have not heard of any relationship between Iodine and seizures.
That being said, what part of the world are you in? How old is the dog?
Many parasites can cause seizures due to toxins they release, various lungworms are notorious for this. Have you had any blood work done? Is there an elevated eosinophil count? Has the dog been coughing or seem to get winded more easily? Panting a lot? All signs of parasitic infection. I suppose if there is a parasite condition and the Iodine is causing die off the toxins from that could cause a seizure.
How about drinking water? Has the dog been drinking/urinating a lot? High blood Sugar levels also cause seizures.

This is a reply to # 2,179,582The dog is a 10 year old boxer. Lives indoors for the most part. Blood work has been done. No coughing and not easily winded. Panting is normal. She does have some signs of hypothyroidism like less energy, a heart arrythmia, gaining a bit of weight (normally does not gain weight).
She's drinking normally and urinating as normal, though she's leaking urine a lot since the seizures have started.- Re: Seizure in Dog after supplementi... Ferventer

This is a reply to # 2,179,640along with Iodine i would add 100mcg of selenomethionine. that should help with the tumor, which is probably what it is.

This is a reply to # 2,179,643I was also wondering if dogs can have a form of Hashimoto's disease? Just wondering if the idodine may have triggered an autoimmune response that in turn triggered the seizures?

This is a reply to # 2,179,581Try some magnesium oil in his food or water. Be careful as too much may cause the runs. A few drops to start with.
I have had good experience with the one from the salt lakes, CMD i believe it is called; it has a good amount of boron and lithium as well.

This is a reply to # 2,179,581Perhaps your dog had low blood Sugar and the Iodine caused it to go too low and triggered a seizure??
Thats the only thing I can think of.. My dog had a seizure once from too low of blood sugar... scary stuff
