First... here is a chart of my systolic and diastolic blood pressure from 1998 thru 2011.
Next, here is a chart showing my 24 hour "systolic" blood pressure averages for 2003, when my blood pressure was very unhealthy, in 2006 when my blood pressure was improving and then for 2011 when my blood pressure was much healthier!
From 1999 thru 2004 my blood pressure was too high and very unhealthy. My health and heart failure was getting progressively worse. So....... let's take a look at my average blood pressures during that period of time.
During the six year years from 1999 thru 2004, my diastolic blood pressure averaged over 90 ALL THE TIME! Average blood pressure also increased as the day went on. The period of time from 9pm thru 4am during the two years 2001 and 2002 averaged 151/96!
I am so very lucky that I did not suffer a stroke or an embolism, or a heart attack or sudden death due to heart rhythm dysfunction.
What also can be learned from this info is that, in some cases, the body and the metabolism can be very tough and very durable; and can suffer from constant high blood pressure for quite a long time before health problems get critical.
Now lets take a look at the years 2005 and 2006.
2005-2006 5am-12pm 133/79 --- 1pm-8 pm 141/85 --- 9pm-4 am 142/83
I was on a small meal, low calorie diet of around 1400 calories in 2005. As can be seen, the morning blood pressure was quite a bit better. The afternoon and the late night blood pressures went into mildly unhealthier ranges.
Lets take a look at the years 2007 and 2008.
2007-2008 5am-12pm 120/70 --- 1pm-8 pm 129/76 --- 9pm-4 am 127/74
As I made my diet healthier and started avoiding allergens and household irritants, my blood pressure kept getting lower and into more healthy levels.
The morning blood pressure became very healthy. The afternoon blood pressures were significantly higher, but very healthy. The late-evening blood pressure actually went down into a healthier range. It's a very good, healthy sign, IMHO, if the late-evening blood pressures actually dip instead of going higher.
Surprisingly, as my blood pressure improved so did my allergies/asthma! I was really surprised to learn that, as I eliminated contact with an irritant, and saw that my blood pressure went lower, my asthma also improved and I also felt much better! My blood pressure readings were helping me to discover common household items which were causing my allergy/asthma problems! How cool is that!?
Now lets take a look at the last two years for which I kept any significant records, 2009 and 2010.
2009-2010 5am-12pm 119/70 --- 1pm-8 pm 130/76 --- 9pm-4 am 123/71
What I find most interesting is that my morning blood pressures were almost the same healthy readings as the prior two years, and the afternoon readings stayed at the same higher albeit reasonably healthy levels, but the late-evening blood pressures improved significantly, showing a noticeable healthy dip in blood pressures!
I am hoping that this information can help others to better understand blood pressure patterns over 24 hours; and those with high blood pressure can compare their blood pressure averages to mine to see what is possible and to see that chronically high, consistently bad blood pressure and be cured, even if complicated by serous heart disease like Heart Failure.
