I'm a 24 year old paraplegic as of 2010 from getting hit by a couple of cars. I have lymphatic/vascular issues with my feet, and they quickly swell up with me sitting in my wheelchair now, resulting in easily developing wounds every so often. The only way to deal with that is with elevation of my feet and proper compression (which i have not found yet after spending money on 2 custom compression garments). But that's not what i'm posting about, though.
I am presently managing some wounds on both feet that got out of my control. I waited too long to go see a wound doctor and they were bad enough to require immediate admittance then next day debridement. I switched hospital's because they insisted on unneeded amputations of 3 toes(which are now healed). The rest of the wounds are now healing okay, but they took a bone biopsy and a couple of wound samples and they found 3 infections in my left foot:
1. MSSA- (probabely acquired from the first hsopital i went
to for wound care)
2. Pseudomonas
3. ESBL+ klebsiella Pneumonia-(also colonized in my urinary
tract causing burning although not full blown UTI)
The first hospital i went to didn't even specify the infections i have before giving me iv vancomycin and ciproflaxacin pills; the 5th day of taking that and i woke up in the morning with half of my breath gone along with profuse sweating and dizziness. The infectious disease doctor and her assistant chuckled in my face at the idea of side effects; it turned out to be the wrong
Antibiotics for the bacteria i have, anyway. Ditched that place quickly.
The second infectious disease doctor had me on an initial 2 week dose of tygecycline, then added on cefepime for another month long course. I stopped midway through the course about 2 weeks ago because i feel pretty bad; vomiting, nausea, sleepy and tired all the time, and a nasty metal taste in my mouth. The infections i have are not actively harming or killing me yet or anything; the most recent blood results from last week Wednesday showed they were at a safe level with my white blood count being a bit high; i'm sure these levels will be higher by now, though. The wounds are all healing, but the ones on my left foot are healing exponentially slower; i don't know if it's because of the infections located there, or because of the blood clot i have in my left leg which i manage with warfarin (doctors at this hospital told me to switch to baby aspirin, though).
I am looking for all natural ways to knock out these infections; the iv
Antibiotics do lower the levels, but too slowly, and i don't want to have to head back to the hospital in another year because this stuff killed my kidney's or something, i can just feel something like that coming on. I am going to see a naturopathic doctor tuesday, but it will be nice to save the money for that if there is anything i can do on my own.
Any help is appreciated, God bless everyone!
