I saw a few posts referring to
Iodine and
the skin, and thought I'd throw out something
I did yesterday.
Dermarolling is a procedure using needles to
puncture the skin, perhaps thousands of times,
to cause collagen to more rapidly form (generally
speaking). Also can be used for product penetration.
There are several reasons to "roll", youthful appearance,
scar revision, pushing topicals into the skin. The
needles vary from maybe a .2mm to maybe 3mm. For
home rolling perhaps 1.5mm to 2.00mm (if you really know
what your doing) is the best. Even Hollywood types
have had the procedure doing (google Angelina Jolie
and dermarolling).
I consider myself well seasoned with rolling, and I
rolled again last night with a 1.0 mm. My purpose
is for scar revision from
Acne scars. I've already
had perhaps a 70-80 percent correction doing this around
'08-2010, from moderate scars (type rolling scar).
Not to go on forever...... last night I rolled with my
1.0mm and after rolling the first topical I put on
was
Lugol's iodine. I first patted with filtered water
then put perhaps 3 drops for each section (I had five I
was focusing on : both cheeks, forehead, and neck (good
ol' "turkey neck"). After putting on the
Iodine I immediately used my post-roll topicals per Dr. Fernandez
(one "plastic surgeon" who is touted to invent dermarolling). The post rolling topicals I use are
lipid based and hopefully the oily nature locked the
iodine so it would mostly evaporate??
I had read an abstract perhaps a month ago of a doctor
who had used
Iodine over a scar(s) and the scar had
over a couple of months if memory serves, vanished to
healthy tissue. He used a skin occlusion I believe.
So that's the brief version. I won't go into detail of
the "how to's" on rolling. Generally I'd recommend
researching topicals and the procedure if you're interested
in doing it, including infection control. Also the
numbing creams can be "tricky", its better to stagger
out over time to be safe and not roll a huge area all
at once.
Finally of interest, there is a huge forum at acne.org
on scar revision, which is informative. But I remember
a dermatoligists commenting there, "do not use iodine",
because of the possible side effect of ruining your
thyroid. I take 100mg's a day of iodine, along with the
"co's", so I had no concern of being poisioned by iodine.
Those not use to iodine perhaps first should take it
orally for a while before using is during rolling.
So I'll report later on my updated rolling sessions using
iodine as a component. I feel from everything I read it
will enhance the procedure.
