My Mom, age 60, just had 20 weeks of chemotherapy and is 3 weeks into her recovery from a double mastectomy. The cancer is gone, but I need to help her get her body back in balance so it will not return. She had an aggressive, estrogen receptive form of Breast Cancer and has had symptoms of hypothyroidism for about 10 years, but all bloodwork always showed "normal". A goiter had developed right before she found the breast cancer. She has no other health issues and is on no medications other than pain meds. I have had her on about 3MG Iodoral, but she has been afraid to up the dosage. Everything I have read and researched leads me to recommend she go to 50MG without hesitation. Has anyone walked this road?
When I read Dr. Brownstein's book as well as the info on Breast Cancer Choices, my mom fit the profile perfectly of Breast Cancer caused by Iodine deficiency. Her goiter is gone just from the low dose she has been taking and a skin condition she had on her legs for years has resolved as well, so I know the little is doing good. I just think she needs more. I have her on the companion nutrients as well. My only hesitation is not knowing what harm has been done by the chemo and surgery and if her body needs more time to recover from that before she starts detoxing any more bromide.

getting her Vitamin D levels up between 60-80 ng/mL.
White button mushrooms can help block estrogen because it competes for estrogen receptor sites.

I'm from Breast Cancer Choices and have had Breast Cancer but I didn't have chemotherapy or radiation so I can't speak to the toxicities from personal experience.
However, since I've seen many women take Iodine even while taking chemo, I've never heard any of them complain about detox. I'd think your mom could begin raising her Iodine dosage immediately. Some Iodine literate docs prescribe hundreds of mgs to cancer patients.
It's a very good sign that your mother had a history of thyroid disease that iodine has already helped. If she had one iodine deficiency-related condition (goiter), the chances are that her overall breast future falls into the same category. The thyroid, breasts and ovaries all have a tendency to swell, get cysts, nodules and fibrosis which may progress to cancer. This suggests, if iodine can slow down or arrest disease progression in one iodine-dependent organ, it can do the same in the others. The many testimonials support this observation.
If you can arrest or reverse this progression your mom has made huge progess in addressing an underlying cause-- a reason to be hopeful.

Also, according to Carole Baggerly, breast cancer is a disease of vitamin D deficiency.
I believe that your body can't grow cancer when the D levels are within optimum.

This is a reply to # 2,062,284Have you or your mum heard of Vitamin C infusions? These have been a godsend to anyone on chemotherapy. I have heard these will get the body regenerating in no time.
She must get rid of her excess estrogen, DIM along with Iodine (and the complimentary nutrients and protocols, Sea Salt push, selenium and magensium) are the best things to take.
Tell her not to be scared at all, as Iodine can save her life, literally.. I grew a large goitre (with painful thyroiditis) all taken care of with Iodine supplementation after the misfortune of having half of my thyroid removed. This is a reply to # 2,062,710I have been trying to convince her to take the vitamin C infusions. I found a clinic locally who does it. I have read Linus Pauling's findings and looked and his study with terminal cancer patients. I think she is about ready to add that to what we are doing. She is taking Iodoral, C, selenium, D, magnesium, etc., just not at therapeutic levels.
I've had her on D for the last couple years, but she is hesitant to surpass those stupid RDA's. My brother is an MD/PhD doing his fellowship in endocrinology, so I have an uphill battle to bring everyone outside of the box! While my mom has always tended to natural things and never let doctors pump us kids with Antibiotics and such, she underestimates her ability to make informed choices that buck the system.
It's a process though and we are making progress. My dad is already taking 50mg Iodoral and companion supplements, so I think my mom will soon follow.
She is, understandably, afraid of what the future holds and what to do now. That's why I was hoping to find someone on here who had walked the same path.- Re: Any Breast Cancer Survivors Taki... peggyaus

This is a reply to # 2,062,836Yeah I understand, I hope someone pops up to share their Breast Cancer survival stories using Iodine and reducing estrogens as there are people out there. Perhaps the Breast Cancer choices people might be able to link you to some testimonials via their website? They also have links to scientific research here on Iodine which might help your mother and your family be more encouraged, so often doctors are not up to speed with current research, as you know:

This is a reply to # 2,062,284I have ER+ (and her2+) breast cancer. It was very, very advanced when I was diagnosed last summer.
I had serendipitously started Iodine a few months earlier, but I took Iodine during the hard chemo. I took 50 or 100 mg every day I "felt like it." If it repulsed me I didn't take it that day.
During this time I felt like crap every day, whether I took it or not! So I couldn't tell a difference.
I still do the iodine, and vit D, as people are recommending -- loading up for a week with 30,000 - 50,000/day (can't remember) and taking 10,000/day ever since (thanks Grizz).
I do a lot of other supplements too, and I can't say what for sure is making it happen, but I am doing great and the cancer's almost gone, if there's even any active stuff left.
If it were me in your mother's circumstance I would take as much Iodine as I could handle, along with the companion nutrients...and if the oncologist says not to take selenium (mine did) ignore it (I did).
Good luck with everything. I wish you and your mother the best, and she is very lucky to have you helping her with this!

This is a reply to # 2,063,664Thank you, Rachael. I hope the Iodine and other supplements bring about your healing and the complete eradication of the cancer.
As I have read about the DIM, as suggested by Peggyaus, I am convinced that should be added to the regimen for my mom.
