I had my mirena placed August 2008, 12 weeks after my first child. I have had health problems my whole life and had terrible reactions to other birth control before conceiving my daughter. I was so happy to get the mirena, since pills and the ring were no longer options. However, I have had illness after illness, spent a majority of the last four years on
Antibiotics , steroids, and all kinds of other meds for various and sundry things, all weird, but explainable. However, my husband and I decided to have it removed after gaining 50
lbs. in the last few weeks, yes weeks!!! And yes, 50- fifty pounds. We thought it might have been the steroids for a brain infection, but now I look 9 months pregnant!!! I have not a had a period since the initial bleeding stopped- no period for nearly 5 years. I also have Poly-cystic Ovary syndrome (PCOS), so my dr has recommended for years for me to keep it in since it should help with it.
I logged on to see what I should expect now that it is out and realized I have had many similar experiences to those posting on this site. I will pray for each of you and your continual healing. I hope my recovery will be quick, but it sounds that that is not always the case. I tend to be the person in the bunch who has the most problems, so I hope that is not a sign of things to come, but at least I can be prepared based on your experiences. If I know what to expect, I am less likely to freak out! :) My dr. has recommended the HCG diet, which is somewhat controversial, but she believes it may help with the hormonal imbalance. It is supposed to reset the hypothalamus and help tremendously with weight loss. Has anyone tried this?
Also, the last few months, before the brain infection, I was on a 60 day juice fast. I didn't lose any weight (go figure), but I felt better and it sounds like something I should continue to help lessen the effects of crazy hormones. The juice fast cured my IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).
Everyone sounds really supportive and like they have been through a great deal of pain, suffering, and non-support from the medical community. Please let me know how I can help and if any of my symptoms or attempts to heal have been tried or met with any success.
Thanks! And God Bless!
