So im wondering whats the goal when it comes to the scab. Is the goal to keep it on the lips as long as possible? Or is the goal to get the scabs off the lip without causing trauma.
Are the scabs doing the lips anygood just hanging around? Or should i wet it more often so it can harden, & firm together to fall of naturally.
My peeling cycle have went to 1 week, to about a little over 2 weeks.
I was thinking the faster the scabs replicate, the faster the lips will heal right? So wouldnt it make sense to find a way for the scabs to replicate faster without causing any trauma at all.- Re: Scabs MikePylon

This is a reply to # 2,031,801this is a very good question... i'm of the belief that this is not an injury but rather the expression of a former injury... on one hand, i don't think having old scabs on your lips are necessarily great for this condition because they become very cumbersome, are hard to lubricate and medicate, and may be a breeding ground for bacteria... on the other hand, i don't believe you should ever expose the raw skin beneath by taking them completely off manually as that will only increase inflammation and worsen the condition... my doctors orders are to leave the scabs on... personally, i've had the best luck leaving them on, but trimming the excess with scissors... ideally, you would be able to debride the top of the off the scabs off and still leave a protective layer covering the raw skin... but that's almost impossible to do without taking too much off. - Re: Scabs danielxmiller

This is a reply to # 2,031,801That's a good question. I don't believe time is much of a factor as keeping them constantly moist is...they will come off naturally while keeping them moist, and will build up slower and less each time it peels. That has been my experience so far.

MoreThis is a reply to # 2,031,815I agree with Daniel. I believe there is a reason the lips are doing this - to stabilize and heal the lips until they are back to a normal state. My dermatologist said to try and keep the skin on for as long as possible. Since we're keeping it moisturized, this shouldn't be a problem (mine are so thin that it looks like normal lips - that is until they are on for about two weeks and they start peeling - what starts happening is the outer edges of the scabs become white, but they remain on the lip). As Daniel said, once it is ready to fall off, or does so accidentally, it shouldn't hurt or cause trauma because the lips are constantly moist.
While keeping things moisturized, you're letting the lips do their thing and you can live a practically normal life. I still drink out of a straw just in case and I'm extra cautious when eating.
