Ok so without getting all excited over something that won't last, I felt compelled to write here about my recent experience with brewing my own Kombucha tea.
For those who don't know, it is a home brew of plain sweet tea with the addition of a special culture that looks like a brown disc that you sit in the tea and it ferments into a fizzy champagne like hard to describe delicious drink with all these far out miracle claims attached to it. Do a google search. They call it KOMBUCHA: THE MIRACLE FUNGUS. Yeah, yeah...
So anyway, I made my first batch and it was surprisingly tasty (looked quite ugly due to the hideous looking creature that was fermenting it leaving billows of dead yeast strands in the brew). I took one glass. Tasted good. Couldn't resist another. Mmmmm.... refreshing. Oh no, I've only brewed a litre of the stuff, but I just can't help it I need to drink it all! That night... dreamt about Kombucha, had a feeling of wellness on waking, a bit fuzzy and sparkly, couldn't really attribute it to anything in particular, especially considering I had just started taking steriods (low dose hydrocortisone for allergies). Assumed the cortisone was boosting my adrenals and making me feel better.
But I did notice that day and the next how incredibly SOFT my skin had SUDDENLY become. I've never experienced that with roids before, actually quite the contrary. Anyway, again, I had no way of isolating the cause, though there was this niggling feeling making me think about the Kombucha. After I ran out of the stuff I had to start the whole 10 day brewing process all over again. Interestingly, my skin reverted back to SUPER CRAP after that. Actually a bit worse, because I was taking steroids.
Skin has been HIDEOUS for the past week and I've been PMS and my period is late, losing the plot a bit. Last night I decided it was time to crack the next brew. YUM!!!! DELICIOUS!!!! Couldn't resist again drinking nearly the whole pot. My body just CRAVES it. Can't explain it. It's awesome. So I drank quite a few glasses last night, no room for moderation, I just couldn't stop. This time I had brewed twice as much (kept 200mL as a starter from last batch). I was on the phone with a friend for a few hours while drinking it and we had a really great conversation (I've been avoiding everyone all year because I've felt so incredibly sh*tty that I didn't want to spread my bad vibes around). After we hung up I jumped in the shower and washed my face.
WTF!!!! THAT SAME SOFT SILKY SMOOTH FEELING ON MY SKIN WAS BACK!!!!
Again, I can't isolate it, because I've tried so many other new things these past couple of days, including
parasite cleansing and a new witch hazel ointment, there is just no way of telling. But as soon as I felt it I knew it was the same response as I had last time. IT ONLY TOOK A FEW HOURS AND I COULD FEEL IT SOFTENING MY HAIR TOO!!! What the hell is going on here?! Am I tripping???
All I know is that my skin was still super soft this morning, but then I didn't drink any all day today and by this evening it seems to have abated a bit. Not completely, but noticable.
I've done a google search and came up with all this info on skin and hair when drinking Kombucha. It contains glucaric acid which is supposedly a powerful detoxifier, helping to excrete glucaronic acid conjugates from the liver. It is credited with turning people's grey hair back to the original colour. I also read that in my kombucha book when it first arrived and thought "yeah RIGHT". More natural healing BS. I've tied everything, nothing works. Nothing could do what this thing says it's gonna do.
But I'll tell you what, so far it's done what it's supposed to do in one department... the WC. When I had to go this morning I really had to go - and three times! It really cleaned me out. It didn't give me diarrhoea or anything, but I was a bit backed up from the iron supps I'm taking and certainly cleared the backlog. My tummy looked heaps flatter afterward.
I want to try drinking a gazillion litres of this stuff, maybe even do a fast on it. But I'm going to have to brew a new big batch of starter tea and that is going to take 10 days, plus then the brews from that will take 10 days, so it will be at least 20 days until I can start :(((
It's still way too early to tell, but the effect does seem promising. It definitely gives you that buzz people talk about. It's a good feeling. Like a natural high because your body is singing, saying thank you.
Can anyone please share their experience with kombucha here and let us know if they have experienced improvements in their skin and hair as a result - like, INSTANTANEOUSLY?!?!?!
Thanks!
