Every time I take ashwagandha I keep getting a bladder infection. I will feel like I have a full bladder and then pee alot with a slight burning. Why would this be? Ashwagandha helps my headaches and joint pain, but seems to give a flammatory reaction in my bladder....so wierd. I get a similar reaction with devil's claw. Just don't get it. I am using the brand himalaya.

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,905,429There is probably some type of bacteria in the kidneys that it is killing off, so lower the dose and keep going. YOu can also take psyllium to help pull out the toxins...take a tablespoon in water before each meal and eat prebiotic and probiotic foods.

The ashwagandha really should not have that problem. I suspect that it is likely one of the additives such as the calcium phosphate or magnesium stearate. If you can I recommend trying straight ashwagandha powder to see if this solves the problem If so then it is more likely the additives.

I have tried the herbs at different times, but always the same reaction. I use herbs only from starwest, so I don't think additives are the problem. I would love to figure out what is going on because there are lots of herbs I know I would benefit from taking. When I take them, the pain is very intense. It is not possible to just keep taking them and still function.

There is nothing in ashwagandha though that should cause this. A spastic bladder can also cause these symptoms, but again the GABA elevating effects of ashwagandha should prevent bladder spasms as well. So I just don't see any way for the herb to cause these symptoms.
