Hello, I have had mirena in since April of 2011. I'm 22 and had our first baby in January so I figured that with my busy life and all mirena would be the best choice since its fool proof. However, I now wish I had done a lot more research before I got it. When the mirena was inserted I didn't have much pain, just a little cramping and pinching. Everything seemed to go fine until the end of Aug. when I started having sever nausea. It really felt like I was pregnant; same kind of nausea as when I had morning sickness. Then the stomach tenderness came soon after along with extreme exhaustion. I also had back sternum pain with all this. I went to my pcp and asked point blank if my mirena could be causing this. She said no. And so I took her word seeing how she should know since shes the medical professional and I'm not. But I knew that something was wrong with my body. So that's when all the tests started, too many to count and so much blood taken that it was crazy. About a month and a half ago I started having joint pain; every joint in my body aching when I get up or after sitting for a little while. No meds have helped. I've seen several different doctors and specialists and they all just keep telling me that the tests are normal!!! Well alright but something is wrong because I feel like I want to crawl in a hole and die I hurt so bad and my moods are ridiculous. Not to mention the migraines and head foginess I've had during all this. Its hard with all of this to act normal and spend the time with my daughter that I want to. I have now decided to have my mirena out because I really think it IS the reason all of this is happening seeing how I'm young and have never been a sick person

Hi! glad you found this forum and figured out what was the cause of your sickness but sorry you had to suffer, I, along with the rest of the women on here know all too well what you're going through. Good thing you're getting it out too! you can read all of my past posts to read about my symptoms and my experience with it. I felt like I was going through menopause and dying all at the same time and I'm only 26 and have always been healthy and happy before Mirena. I hope and pray you have a speedier recovery than I have had but I had it in for 3 years and it seems the longer you had it in, the longer it takes your body to get back to normal. Get it out ASAP!! Best wishes on your road to recovery :)

This is a reply to # 1,903,135Thank you so much for your support! I really thought I was going crazy the last 5 months because it seemed like there was no medical reason for me to be like this. But I'm so glad that you and other women are coming forward on this and other forums to help those of us who are just now figuring it out. I also hope that my recovery is quick and that you too feel 100% soon. It does outrage me to find out that soooo many women are having these problems but neither the dr.s or mirena are telling anyone BEFORE they have them put in!

This is a reply to # 1,903,131Glad to hear you are getting it out! My 22 year old daughter has been thru pure hell since she got the Mirena. She had it for 2 years and was very very sick the last 6 months she had it, too many symptoms to list again but you can read my earlier posts about it if you'd like. I wish it didn't take us so long to figure out that it was the Mirena. Most of the Dr's said 'oh no the Mirena can't cause this' - but then two Dr's finally said 'get it out because there are unexplained pain syndromes/auto immune issues with Mirena in some women. She has had every test you can imagine and many stays in the hosptial. She is 3 months post removal and though she has improved a lot she is still a very sick girl, and suffering from severe bone/joint flare ups, burning legs/feet/hands, and anxiety, hairloss, migraines and brain fog, and occasional vision problems. It makes me so angry to know that Mirena has caused ALL OF THIS. All the tests she has had came back negative, yet she continues to suffer. I am beginning to wonder if she has fibromyalgia as a result of all the trauma her body has been thru with the Mirena. We are going to talk to the Dr about it on Friday and try to get a new treatment plan, it's like we make one step forward and then two steps back somedays, but we aren't giving up. Has ur daughter found any medication/supplements/vitamin remedies to help deal with some of the symptoms she's experiencing? This is a reply to # 1,903,401Hi there Shira Shira, she has her good days and bads. Overall she is much better, but still suffers from severe flare ups of boint/joint pain, and anxiety. She is 3 months post removal, so I am hoping that she will continue to improve. She tried the detox and took tons of supplements and has taken lots of vitamins, B12, and countless medications too. She goes back to the Dr tomorrow and we are going to ask for a new treatment plan, and see about fibromyalgia medications. Nothing seems to be working lately, and the flare ups/pain is excruciating for her at times. Hope you are doing better. Please keep us posted, and I will continue to update everyone on any new information our Dr gives us. I am going to ask for a referral to a Rheumatologist next I think. I agree with some good days and some bad days..I also agree with nothing seems to b working.....nothing seems to be really doing the trick. But like a female on here says we have to continue to fight. Hope ur daughter totally heals and with you by her side she will. Ur a superb mother!!! Keep up the good work!!!

I'm sorry to hear that your daughter is having to go through the same hell that I've been subjected to. Especially since this did not have to happen to any of us. I will keep everyone updated on how things go. I'm trying to get into my OB/GYN sooner, can't get in until Feb. 7.
