I am new to this forum.Thanks to all for sharing.
I am suffering from what I believe is a resistant vaginal yeast infection even though my swabs come back negative.
IT has been 19 months of hell, I can not walk, the skin peels off ..I have be plagued with them for years, but this one started after a treatment with Diflucan for 3 months for oral thrush, once finished the scrip, I got the yeast infection from hell. I refuse to believe I am stuck with this forever and I like others here have contacted Dr. Crandall.
Have any of you had luck with this program?
HAve any of you had the shots??
Did die off cause your symptoms to flare...ie my vagina area is outta control.
I finally have a doctor on board and he found high amts of fungi in my live cell test (I don't know if any like that test) but he believes like I, that the horrible inflammation and skin peeling is not just "vulvodynia"?
I have been battling candida in my guess since childhood...had vaginal yeast then....
Any advice...I am in Canada and it was a bugger to find a doc that would believe in me......I am just afraid after being on Itraconazole for 6 wks I should see improvement....not worsening...but as I said this is a very long standing problem..
My adrenals have failed....and I am not sure what came first..candida or hormones issues...I thought I had perimenopause and sent a year in bed with "flu like" symptoms and they dx me with Chronic-Fatigue-Syndrome until I crashed after a colonoscopy...I am truly a mess..help me walk....:(

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,878,238what do you mean, "a live skin cell test" ? Was that a gram smear, biopsy or yeast culture?
You could have more than yeast. You are probalby have a yeast allergy and should get the intradermal skin test. Did Dr. Crandell already advise you to do this?
Also, skin peeling, could be a lichen of some sort, Lichen Planus, Schlerosis, or an excema or that vestibulitus (sp)? .
It's all the damage that yeast does. I had itching still after the yeast was gone. I finally had a biopsy because my gyno saw some thickened skin. Turns out its early Lichen Schlerosis. Lichen is an autoimmune disorder. Thanks to yeast.

This is a reply to # 1,878,238Gibby is right. I have it too. Its a nightmare. It all started with a v yeast. It could be a lichen. you should go look at dermznet, and see if any of those pictures looks like what you have. sometimes they prescribe a cortisone, which helps. But you have to use a teensy bit or that med can be dangerous. Docs label everything vulvodynai or menopause. thats the way they get rid of us. cindy

all my swabs come back negative for yeast. I saw a "vulvar" dermatologist and she hardly looked at me and said I was fine....q tip test, nothing else. Other gyn specialist said it is fine and vulvodynia....she took skin swabs..no results yet. However she did do hormone test as with the adrenal issue she suspects I have other abnormal levels...she gave a a progestrone cream with antidepressant cream. (which causes me to swell and turn beet red)
They have ruled out lichen....
The issue is that is can look "normal" at times, yet the outter labia is terribly shrunken and that is where it peels..
I swear to god, this is yeast, and even though the swabs are normal...
Yes Dr Crandall did advise me to get tested for an allergy and I will travel 4 hours next week flat in a truck to get there....unless someone knows of someone in Toronto CAnada????

Dr. Crandall felt that I most certainly had a very bad case of yeast that was untreated for months and now has gone crazy...lol just like me...lol
I had a "live cell blood microscopy test" (not your typical vaginal test, but will show fungi in blood, done by a Dr. Rona here in Toronto, he has written a book on candida and pretty much has ruled out parasites etc, however I have alot of fungi in the blood...so therefore he believes candida is definately a big problem for me, give my childhood history and many many antibotics........and many antifungals.....and leaky gut....I am text book......
I actually really believe I am on the right track, but with the flaring of symptoms with treatment and lack of "sucess stories" is causing me to fear my gut feeling.....the burning is getting the better of me. I really need feedback on if anyone has had luck getting rid of this horrible problem.
If it takes a year for the burning to go and itch..I can wait, just need some feedback as the internet is full of stuff.....and I saw that some of you had talked with dr cradall also.....so I wondered if she help you?

I am seeing and MD that is also uses complementary medicine, I was not able to get any "traditional" medical specialists to believe in my theory or test me for that matter.grrrrrrrrrrr (my gyn shook his head for a year!!) and I am took antidepressants that did not work for pain....
Since this issue is deep rooted in my body, like Crandall agrees, I finally sought out a Dr. that deals in Candida, not just vulvodynia.....
I know we are all different, and many causes are possible, but with Dr Crandall's advice, and finally finding a MD to treat me, I know I am up for a battle. I just need to hear from others like you who can share your helpful hints and theories and stories!!! :)

This is a reply to # 1,878,273Peeling and shrunken sounds like lichen to me. That's what lichen can do. scar tissue is created as it can advance. You'd need a biopsy to confirm though which is not so pleasent. If you have visible spots that are different, you need a biopsy to confirm. Then, make sure it's read by a dermapathologist.

This is a reply to # 1,878,707Yes, I was in touch with Dr. Crandell and followed her protocall with diflo, creams/ointments, and everything. My gyno went along with it. Months and months of this stuff. Finally, I gradually weaned myself off of diflo, as I didn't feel like it was doing anything anymore. I took Zyrtec/Zantack which helped the itch. The itch never left, but the yeast did. We thought it was a mast cell problem. Never confirmed by a true allergist, they all just laughted at me, but my Integrative MD tested me and is giving me drops for yeasts, molds, and foods. My gyno found out by biopsy that I had lichen schlerosis. Just the very early early stages. But that explains the itch that has been there for so long.- Re: Vulvoldynia...candida...help Bailey444

I am glad that you have been DX and that the yeast is gone!! I am sorry you still have the itch....I don't have itching ....it is burning...endless burning, with red inflammed skin. The outer area is like a horrible sunburn....then peels just like a burn...I have tried everything in 19 months and nothing works...and yeast makes all the sense in the world.
Dr. Crandall is very kind, and did seem to think this is my darn problem..
I could not get anyone to try a antifungal regimen on me in over a year..?????? Now am in a worse mess...
I have seen both a vulvar dermatologist and special gyn...both said I LOOK fine, the rash on the outter labia only happens once and awhile, so no doctors have seen that rash, but this flare has me more bedridden. I have follow up with both specialists. They are totally against YEAST treatment....as is my GP...
However an environmental medicine MD and my integrated MD feels this is my problem, and root cause, so I finally finally have someone to treat me, it is horribly difficult to find someone to test for allergies...??? No one will believe in this ..???!! And I have no ideas how to find a credible allergist that will test for this problem..????

This is a reply to # 1,878,783Bailey, yeah, allergists laughed at me!!!!!!! Patronized me!!!!!! I never found one to treat me. I have to trust my integrative doctor who did intradermal skin testing. She says I'm allergic to the candida, and other yeasts, molds, and tested me for foods.
True allergist doctors laugh at me. When I had a candida intradermal test, I never reacted in the office. When I went home, my arm swelled, and well, for a couple of days. I called them, went in, and they insisted I didn't have the allergy!!!!!!!!!!! They said it was a reaction to the preservative in the injection!!!!!!!!!! I just couldn't ever trust the situation.
I assume my yeast was so bad that I did develop the allergy. So, I'm doing the drops. It's the best I can do now. Hopefully in time, i will be desensitized. Many natropaths, chiropracters, and integrative docs are doing this kind of testing. Did I tell you, you should go on the vulvardisorders group on yahoo. They will be of good help to you. Check it out. Many problems of burning and vulvordynida.
