Hi Everyone. I've been using CureZone for a long time, finding a lot of relevant and helpful information on the site, so I'm glad such site exists. I had my thyroid test done and I need some help with the interpretation of the results. I've searched the web for reference points but there seem to be some inconsistencies in regards to reference intervals. So, I would truly appreciate some assistance and insight.
My Background: I'm a 25 year old female, active and very mindful about my lifestyle and diet (vegetarian/wholesome for the last 2 years. I have been suffering from variety of symptoms since my mid-adolescence - dry skin, underweight, fatigue, hormonal imbalance, brittle hair, dry eyes, difficulty digesting food, halitosis, acne, digestive disturbances, absent-mindedness, and overall feeling of weakness. For the last 3 years, I've been actively researching, experimenting and trying diverse supplements and health modalities in order to regain a sense of health and vitality. Even though I've experienced some improvement, I still have to cope with most of those unpleasant symptoms. Initially, being young and naive, I sought assistance from traditional doctors. Eventually, like many of us here, I lost my confidence in the allopathic medicine since I did not receive any real relief or useful feedback besides - "all is fine," "take these pills," or, more popularly, suggestions to seek a psychiatric help. Then, I've decided to do my own research and to seek a more natural path to balancing my body (and mind) and attaining a sense of well-being.
Lately, I started to suspect that my thyroid was not functioning well, suggested by typically low body temperature (morning temp. can be as low as 95, goes up later in the day). Also, for many years, I have had a very hard time gaining weight; no matter what I eat (try to consume good sources of protein and fats) I seems to be stuck at 115
lbs. and my skin is very dry. Further, it's possible that my adrenals are overworked (hypoadrenia), which can also influence the digestive system, hormonal balance and thyroid functioning (this adrenal-thyroid relationship seems to be very complex). I've been using
Lugol's Iodine for a few months, on and off, which seems to help with regulating body temperature. Anyway, I seem to have many symptoms of hypothyroid, except unlike many people with hypothyroid, I'm underweight not overweight.
So, I've decided to take the Thyroid panel test to see if my suspicions were possibly true. I'm not sure how accurate this test is, but I'm assuming it's more accurate then not. Here are the results:
TSH 4.070 uIU
T4 Thyroxine 9.0 ug
T3 UPTAKE 30
Free Thyroxine index 2.7
I will greatly appreciate any feedback and suggestions. Also, would it be a good idea to continue taking
Lugol's considering the results?
Best wishes,
Veronica
