Intersting debate.... While it is true there are some people that abuse public housing, there are many that do not.

There are some people on public housing that take better care of their pproperty that people who own their own homes.

There are many people who receive help from government programs that better themselves and then go on to help others. Unfortunately there are people that do not appreciate what they are given. This is true of the poor and wealthy alike. And not all people use public housing as a free ride. Many people work and pay taxes and pay rent to the public housing authority. They raise their children to be appreciative, respectful of other people, honest and hardworking. they get educated and go on to be very productive members of their community.



I have known people on the system that didn't deserve any help. They spent there time getting high instead of getting a job. Their house was dirty and their children ran amuck. But I have known people with money that owned their home, and they let their yard go to crap and let their children raise themselves. Being poor doesn't equate to being an unappreciative slob anymore than having money equates to being apreciative and clean. It depends on the person.

I know a hard working father who has learning disabilities that prevented him from getting a higher education. He had a very difficult time getting a job and was out of work for quite a while. But he was not lazy and took very good care of his house, his yard and his kids. Being that he liked to be busy and active he decided to volunteer at a senior meals program. He did this for quite a while. He also volunteered to build a wheelchair ramp for a man that lost his ability to walk. He also helped two widows that had recently lost their husband. He did dry rot repairs, landscaping, painting, some plumbing repairs and even help one women rearrainge her furnature. He remodeled a mobil home for one women so she could sell it. All while he raised his children and continued to look for work. He had now gotten a job working at a University, being trained to work in research. He continues to volunteer to help others in need. And yes he has benefitted from puplic housing. He pays rent, and electricity, cable, etcetera and puts fresh bark in his flowerbeds each year.

So while it is true there are many that abuse the help they are given and do not appreciate it, there are many that DO appreciate what they are given and give back in return.

I have a neighbor that owns his house and it is a real eyesore. His yards full of weeds, he never mows. There is a bunch of junk in his driveway. His 3 year old is out in the front yard with no one watching him and has almost been hit by a car an couple times. Another neighbor has junk cars filling his yard.

SO yes I agree there are people that are poor that don't care enough to keep up their home, but there are plenty of people that have money and own their homes that don't keep up their property either.

Its not always abot money. It comes down to self respect and respect of others, which is lacking in the poor as well as the wealthy.
