There are those that attack the messenger when they cannot comprehend the message, rather than making an effort to have an open mind. Some people feel safer if they can label others, it means they don't have to confront any ideas that come from anyone, other than those that inhabit the same comfort zone. Mean spiritedness, comes from fear, people who are not fearful of others, (or the ideas of others), do not need to be mean spirited.

There are many here that are so caught up in the left/right dance, they cannot see beyond it.

The use of silly name calling, and nasty personal attacks, is about the levels of maturity, and levels of fear. This is also a defensive tool used by those that do not have the ability to comprehend ideas that are outside their narrow view, and are frightened by what they cannot understand.

As B&G said, this used to be the forum to attack George Bush, but unfortunately, it is now the forum to attack everyone who does not support a right wing, christian view, as well as simply attacking the American president.

It is unfortunate, but its simply a reflection of wider society, where the people in power use the left/right dance, to divide the population, and distract them from what is really happening. People will only wake up when they can see past the left/right propaganda.

And yes, I am from Australia, but our country suffers from the same division and ignorance as yours, maybe not to the same extent yet, but its certainly getting that way. The sort of school yard nastiness, that some posters here engage in, can be seen in some of our politicians and commentators, just the same as in your country.

Can't say the same for Obama. He's an internationalist.. he doesn't want America to remain America - but maybe that's your agenda is well and why you support him without seeing the obvious.
