Well, you probably haven't had any die off because (I suspect) you are eating ordinary rolled oats from the grocery store. Those, while healthy for you in other ways, are NOT raw! The original poster in this thread is refering to "oat groats", which are not usually found in ordinary grocery stores, more likely found in health food stores.
Raw oat groats are NOT flat flakes, like common oatmeal flakes are. Groats look like little seeds. And check the package or the store where purchased to make they do say "raw" if you intend to use them for their chitinase.
chitinase is an enzyme that is destroyed by heat, that is why common rolled oats do not have any chitinase -- the heat used in rolling them before packaging has destroyed the chitinase.
Just want to clear all that up!
