Howdy Rooth -
'Glad to hear you're getting into truly natural healing - good for you!
There's a HUGE difference in varying "superfood blends"...and in typical "Schulze style" I'm going to say -- 'giving your body what it needs and healing yourself is not about the taste factor, it's about what is best for your body'. Your taste buds will acclimate to anything.
Dr. Christopher said that our 'unnatural, poisoned taste buds' are sometimes THE "biggest mountain". If you're 'in a place' where you really won't eat something you truly need because of your taste buds, then now is the best time to identify that and get to work on healing it...and here's all you need to get started: http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=1711602#i
Many people can't stand the taste of healthy/natural Superfood when they first taste it (Rocky n' I hated it), so we bought it in capsules (even though that's not an efficient way to get it...by the way, 2T is around 16-20 capsules)...and every couple of weeks we mixed up a smoothie and tasted it again. After a couple-three months (along with our other diet changes), we found it was tolerable, after another few weeks, we were looking forward to it (and laughing at ourselves & celebrating our victory big-time).
Bottom line: 'Just like all other kinds of herbal "supplements", 90-95% of the superfoods on the market are a scam and a ripoff...and many (many!) contain harmful ingredients/substances that are TOTALLY unnatural to the body.
Generally the "yummy" superfood blends have all kinds of ultra-sweet 'dried fruit juices/berries' added, at the expense of the higher nutrient ingredients (some even have processed stevia...not natural leaf - and nobody even knows what 'white stevia' will do to us, but you can bet it's not a goodness). And there's not very many blends on the market that use organic plants/herbs. Then there's cost...
Most supefood blends recommend 1-2 Tablespoons daily. 2T is the bare minimum in my book, and that's for "normal life". Our bodies have been running like there's a brick on the accelerator for most of our lives just tryingi to keep up with the horrendous toxin/poison load and lack of oxygen (oxygen level in the atmosphere in the 1970's was 30%; now it's around 18% in the country and only 12% in the city). 2T of superfood for 'normal life' is actually not enough, but it's not even close to enough when we're forcing our bodies to cleanse, detoxify and heal themselves. So 4-6 T daily is the minimum I suggest...and when most are $30-$35 per month for 1-2 T daily, 3 tubs a month (plus shipping) is more than most can afford.
In fact, for this very reason, 'Superfood' is why we started making our own formulas - so it's the foundation of our entire Apothecary ('we two adults' couldn't afford $200 a month for us both to get the superfood our bodies desperately needed). After checking out what was available, we knew we had to make our own to ensure we were getting a quality product that didn't plow our body with unnatural substances and various 'chemical isolates'.
Hmmm, I can't find an ingredient list for Miracle Greens, it seems they've changed the name to Macro Greens (same company). Here's the ingredients (and my commentary) for Macro Greens (if this isn't the right one, then you can compare the list to whatever you're using):

* Percent Daily Values are based on a 2000 calorie diet. OTHER INGREDIENTS: Stevia. Would this be the ground-up, organic green leaf (natural) or would this be the white, processed, nutritionally void 'white stevia sugar' chemical? Since there's virtually nothing "sweet" tasting in this, if it has a sweet taste it likely has a LOT of "stevia" |
Dr Schulzes Superfood:
--(equal parts, all powdered, all organic)
Spirulina
Chlorella (cracked cell)
Wheat grass
Barley grass
Alfalfa leaf
Spinach leaf
Beet root
Rosehips
Orange peel
Lemon peel
Purple Dulse…mix all of the above – then add equal part of the ‘mix’ to equal parts of Nutritional Yeast. Our ‘Special Blend’ (for non vegans) is one part of each of the herbs/plants; two parts Red Star.
From us, it's currently $18 for a month's worth (2T daily) for $42 for a month's worth (6T daily). Just imagine how much MORE of the important nutrients someone would get! The 'superfood alternatives' are even whole/natural foods, they're just a bunch of isolated plant chemicals, fillers, fiber and toxic herbs mixed together (with a handful of truly natural ingredients) blended together to taste yummy and have lots of potential for hype & profit.

>>>Anyway, gonna try the liver detox plan that I bought.<<< Whatever it is, I sure hope it's wholesome, natural organic...and that you've done a good colon cleanse first (at LEAST 10-14 days). Be sure to check out 'why that is' in this post: http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=1745851#i
>>> Funny thing, I was skeptical that I would have the stick-to-it-ness to keep up with hot/cold showers but now that I've tried them, funny thing... I LIKE THEM! I was reminded of how I used to love to dive into a cool pool with the feeling of the crisp water all around. The first cold cycle is a slight shock, then it gets to feeling soooo goooood. :) <<<
Absolutely AWESOME!!!
Keep learning, keep striving, and keep up the good work! :)
Uny
Hey Roooth!
I remember the first time I ever had any Superfood. It was terrible! I actually went out in my backyard and had to get myself "grounded" before I could drink any more of it. I honestly gagged and wanted to puke. But, as Uny said, I wanted to get well waaaay more than I wanted to please my taste buds, so I choked it down. In about a week I got used to it. I still don't really like the way it tastes, but I associate the taste with "goodness," so I do like it.
Try drinking your Superfood with fresh squeezed organic orange juice... especially if it's cold. Mmmmm. Heaven. Just stir some in to your glass. Also try home juiced organic apple juice. Pretty good. And cantaloupe juice. OMG. Now that *is* goodness.
It's nasty in watermelon juice, grape juice, and grapefruit juice. It's Ok in fresh strawberry juice, but it messes up the color, even if you add more beetroot powder to make it pinker for fun. :( Superfood actually tastes pretty good in light veggie juices like cucumber, celery, and carrot. If you wan to have some fun, try making a V-8/Bloody Mary kind of juice with fresh tomato juice, hot peppers, and Superfood. I put Superfood in fresh, organic peach juice once and it made me sad. Fresh peaches are close to perfection, and are only in season for about six weeks, so I would rather enjoy the peach juice alone. :)
My favorite thing to do now is to drink whatever is in season and add Superfood to it. Organic, local, seasonal, high quality is always best, if you can get it.
Uny's right about labels. You want whole foods. If you don't recognise the word, or can't pronounce it, it doesn't belong in your body.
Wings (who is sold out on hippy crap lol)
