So many people here on CZ are pushing costly and dangerous products to alkalinize the body. What they are not telling people is that the body does a very good job of maintaining its own pH since both acidosis and alkalosis are dangerous to the body. This is except in rare cases such as some poisonings and in some disease conditions like COPD.
The primary means by which the body maintains its pH is through respiration. If the body starts becoming too acidic then respiration increases to reduce carbonic acid and lactate. If the body becomes too alkaline then respiration decreases to retain acidic carbonic acid and lactate.
So as a demonstration of how easy it is to alkalinize the body and how dangerous over alkalinization can be consider hyperventilating. If done in a controlled manner the blowing off of carbon dioxide and increasing oxygen to remove lactate puts the body in to an alkaline state right away. If the hyperventilation is overdone though the body will go in to state of alkalosis, and the over reduction of carbonic acid causes the blood vessels around the brain to constrict pushing the blood out of the brain and the person passes out.
This is an example of why we need to maintain pH balance and not force the pH either to the acid or alkaline side. And the body can do a much better job of this can we can hope to do.
In other words, the closer to optimum health a body is the easier it is for simple natural respiration to help correct pH towards normal levels. On the other hand, the farther the body is from optimal health and the more the body has to rely on other backup systems to adjust pH, it becomes more and more debateable as to whether or not it is sufficient to simply let the body correct itself in the face of ill healthy without corrective measures. Relying on backup systems to correct pH in the face of an unhealthy cellular terrain where there has not been proper nutrition, hydration and cleansing of toxic buildup and where there has been ingestion and exposure to toxins, radiation and such, may result in tradeoffs which leave the body impaired and damaged in other ways.
Compare the body to a space vehicle. Like the body, the space vehicle has numerous back-up systems to keep the vehicle operating and viable in the event the main systems fail. But, also like the body, the more backup systems are relied upon the less viable the vehicle is. The function of the failed primary system will inevitably be impaired and, as power or functionality is transferred to the mpaired function, other systems may be curtailed or even shut down. Thus we see telescopes, cameras, experiments and such cut short or cut off as the spacecraft switches to backup systems.
Better oxygenation will not compensate for years of demineralization because of SAD diets.
Respiration is just the primary source of pH balance for the body, but not the only. Bicarbonate is also a buffer for acidity as are minerals from diet. The kidneys also help maintain pH. Bone demineralization is the last resort for countering acidosis, which is why bone demineralization from acidosis is extremely rare.
Indeed, Demineralization is extremely rare!

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), dental caries is a pandemic – which means it affects everyone around the world.
http://www.iofbonehealth.org/facts-and-statistics.html
-Osteoporosis affects an estimated 75 million people in Europe, USA and Japan.
-For the year 2000, there were an estimated 9 million new osteoporotic fractures, of which 1.6 million were at the hip, 1.7 million were at the forearm and 1.4 million were clinical vertebral fractures. Europe and the Americas accounted for 51% of all these fractures, while most of the remainder occurred in the Western Pacific region and Southeast Asia (218).
-1 in 3 women over 50 will experience osteoporotic fractures, as will 1 in 5 men.

I have no idea of how you managed to stretch this out of what was said.
The fact is that alkalosis and acidosis are extremely rare as very few things can lead to these. There are a FEW metabolic conditions that can lead to these conditions and as pointed out some cases of poisoning. Otherwise the pH will still remain normal in most cases of disease as long as the person is not trying hard to manipulate the pH, which can tax the body's pH balancing reserves.
