Hmmm, your "recipe" is not correct, as it leaves out the Slippery Elm Bark Powder. Both Marshmallow root and Slippery Elm Bark (both powdered) are an essential part of the formula.
Intestinal Formula #2 (Schulze)
-- (all ground/powdered)
7 Psyllium seeds & husk (3.5 each)
2 Flax seed
2 Pectin
2 Bentonite
1 Slippery Elm
1 Marshmallow root
1 Peppermint leaf (or Fennel seed, we use Peppermint leaf)
1 Activated charcoal
I am mixing up my own IF#2 with the following recipe: good for you!
2 pts flax seed
2 pts apple fruit pectin
2 pts bentonite clay
7 pts psyllium seed and husk
2 pts marshmallow root
1 pt fennel
1 pt activated charcoal
see recipe above
A few questions:
- Should I use equal parts psyllium seed and husk, so 3.5 pts seed, 3.5 parts husk? Correct...but you cannot just powder whole psyllium seeds with the husks on them (that ends up being the wrong ratio), you should buy the seeds & husks separately. 'Tis much easier to puchased them already powdered.
- Should I measure the ingredients before or after grinding them? Flax seed seems to expand after it is ground, so should I measure 2 pts whole flax seeds, and then grind them, or grind them first and then measure out 2 pts? The marshmallow root becomes very fluffy when it is ground. Should I compress it to measure? I want to make sure I'm adding enough! Measure everything after it is ground/powdered. Everything should be 'measured equally' (don't compress some and then not compress others).
- Are there any things that shouldn't be ground (and should be left whole or chopped)? I'm using a coffee grinder, which doesn't really do much to the psyllium seeds but grinds everything else pretty well. You can leave the flax seeds whole or grind them. Apparently Dr. Schulze has switched from ground to whole flax at various times over the years.
- Is there a preference of slippery elm inner bark vs marshmallow root? What effects do they have? You need both :)
Thanks very much!! You're welcome very much! Uny
