In Janurary 2010, my wife arranged to see a specialist for a pain problem she was having. Referred to Dr. Michael Ott, a general surgeon, the man performed a flexible sigmoidoscopy on her without anaesthetic which just about had her climbing the walls and hanging from the ceiling. The biopsy turned out to be inconclusive but he guessed it was cancer. Christel just put her head down and said, "That's what I was afraid of." He offered her possible surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. She refused all three without hesitation. He then prescribed morphine for pain and sent her home. A month later he wanted to try a second biopsy (this time with anaesthetic) and she refused. I asked him about alternative therapies I'd been reading about. He said the only thing he knows about alternative therapies is that none of them cure cancer. He added, "Why would you want to pay money for treatment when you can get chemo, radiation and surgery for nothing (in Canada). I replied, "Perhaps because alternative therapies usually don't harm the patient. He refused to write a prescription for a perfectly legal, approved alternative treatment (legal in Canada)called Hydrazine Sulfate. He just turned it down flat and wouldn't entertain any pleas, even calling the police after I'd sent two faxes to him begging him for this help, telling the police to have me stop harassing him.
Another doctor, Dr. Paul Ferner, a palliative care specialist, was assigned to her by the CCAC group, and when I spoke to him about this Hydrazine Sulfate he took home literature I'd given him. When he returned a month later, he handed my literature back and gave me a print out he'd gotten from the British Columbia Cancer Institute which stated that H.S. does not work (conclusion from one study involving 29 patients by Kettering-Sloan institute in New York, and from what I understand, performed improperly). I protested that Hippocrates would do anything and everything to try to save a patient" to which he responded, "Well, a lot has changed since Hippocrates' day." I followed up with, "But what if we tried it and it did work. Wouldn't it be worthwhile if it saved her life?" I was stunned by his response to this question, "We all have to die some day." and walked away leaving me in disbelief.
Christel died a month later...not from the cancer, but from what I suspect was an overdose of Morphine. She merely stopped breathing. They had switched her from capsules and pills to direct injection into a patch on the arm. It has now been 7 months and I still haven't gotten over her death. It was such a waste of a beautiful person and the love of my life. Doctors should be using everyting available like Germany does, where I understand that all cancer treatments are considered to be orthodox. Such doctors who refuse patients alternative treatment should have their licences lifted for lack of compassion and understanding, along with refusal to provide necessary care and assistance in trying to provide a cure. As long as there is life there's hope is my belief. Unfortunately Chris' life ran out before I could secure real help for her and it has devastated me for life. They let her fall through the cracks because she refused oonventional treatment. Thanks for listening.
