Ok recap. You drop like 5 to mabye 10
pounds in first few days on water fast. Most of this is water and food in the digestive track and maybe a few
pounds of fat. Then after those first few days actual fat burning kicks in. So on a 20 day
Water Fast you might drop 30 pounds..pound or so a day is typical on water maye half that on juice.
So 20 day fast 30 down. you stop and likely quickly regain 5 to 10. then if you want to hold the rest off you have to eat less calories then you burn. Now the arguments come in that fasting has slowed your burn rate from "starvation response".Possibly but simply losing weight also changes your burn rate. So going from say 260 to 210 like I am trying to do will drop my burn rate.you are ligter and thus need to eat less if you still eat same as before you will now be gaining it back. But just as its impossible to drop 3 lbs a day on
Water Fast think
Shelton mentioned this number but that was drinking when thirsty and that would then have been water weight lost from dehyrdation.1 pound a day is more likely from doing the math.
Some of this will depend on burn rate, persons original weight.
Anyway I drink 8 to 10 glasses a day so unlikely I am losing too much water weight a day most of the loss should be fat. And am down 10% or so on the BF scale and my stomach, face etc is way down ,down pants sizes .At 223 on day 28 of the fast from 258.8.
So you can't actually gain 5 lbs of fat in a day. You can easily gain 5 lbs of water weight reintroducing carbs and salt two substances that hold a lot of water in the body. And not drinking enough water post fast also will make you hold even more water.
So what to do. There is girl on weight loss forum that took off 90lbs juice fasting and kept it off for like 4 years. She ate when hungry, pretty much intermittent fasting and watched not to overeat .She did eventually gain it back but that was do to other circumstances, getting pregnant,
Depression and going back to old style of eating.
So you want to keep it off. First expect a rebound of 5 to 10 right away. Don't stress over it. One reason I am doing a longer fast so if go down 50
pounds and bounch the inevitable 5 to 10 won't be all depressed. yes its very hard to go 30 or 40 but when you are as overweight as we are you have to push it longer to get down. And doing two or three cycles of 20 or 30 or 40 could be a way to do it.
Girl on youtube, not sure original weight, did three back to back 40 day fasts with few weeks in between. Not sure if she posted a follow up. She was very thin by the last cycle.Skeleton thin. I dont' even think she was fasting for weight loss more fasting for God type of thing.
Ok so eat smaller and maybe only eat when hungry not because you think you should be eating 3times a day or snacking 24/7 because you can again.
I would do couple things for sure. Eat when hungry mabye skip meals if you aren't hungry and start up aerbocis 5x week on treadmill, bike, elliptical ,outside if weather is nice, etc. Do weights on bowflex, free weights whatever 3x week full body and or maybe 4x week split routine once your body is used to the weights. And would try some form of intermittent fasting after few weeks if you find you are eating more than you should just eating when hungry.
You have to change your lifestyle to keep it off and keep losing. Exercise will increase your burn rate. but as said if you lose 100 pounds you might drop base metabolic rate from like 2300 to 1500. Can you see why now you would be gaining weight eating same calories as before. the evidence for starvation response is pretty weak. Its more an inferred thing from some pretty weak studies. but simply the drop in base metabolic rate from losing weight can account for a lot of the effect. Also sometimes people weigh daily and get excited when weight fluctuates. Some fluctuatioin is going to happen especially again from salt, carbs and fluid intake. Women of course have their time of month, most hold a lot of water weight during that time but guys can still pick up a lot just have a lot of salt and you can pick up fair bit,its not fat its water.
Also you can try green tea supplements on fast or off.I take few on fast daily. Equivalent to about 1/2 cup of real tea each cap. They help with energy and studies show they increase metabolic rate. I am not worried about their effects on detox am mostly doing fasting for losing weight.
And I exercise 5x daily aerobics sometimes even 7x daily during the fast. It also ups metabolic rate longer if you can do HITT high intensity type go fast then slow down, repeat is more effective still but mostly I walk for 30 minutes or so at about 2.8 mph. don't have quite as much energy on water as when eating.
I don't do weights on water either just putting the weights off until
Water Fast is done.
my plans are to go 40 on water be around 210 from 258.8. then careful refeed for week or so. Diluted juice first day or so, then non diluted juice, then fruit, the fruit and vegies, then soup and working my way up to normal solid foods. Also using all this spare time from not eating to look up recipes and figure out good low calorie substitutes so can eat lower calorie for sure 5 days a week with maybe a bit more calories on weekend or here and there. Guys do manage to lose and keep off a lot of weight on raw. I could do raw maybe for month but after that would want to go at least 80/20 or 70/30 raw. I am not into pure vegetarianism and like my meat, pork, chicken, veal, seafood. Not giving it up for good and not giving up cherry pie, brownies some other food considered crap with
White Sugar ,etc.
I don't believe in most of these extreme diet makovers.
My father is 93 years old and has always ate normally for western civilization. Salami, corned beef, lots of mothers baking with white flour, white sugar, some pop here and there no diet pop or anything diet. He never smoked and never drank much. His health is as good as most for his age.
Other buddies dad is 100 years old. Still doing ok. Also always ate plenty of red meat and normal suger, flour,no whole wheat everything no vege,no raw. and he even smoked!! So really vegetarianism and even eating 100% raw is pretty much unproven to help extend life span much and it seems genetics plays a much bigger role. I don't personally believe you should eat "junk food" all the time but here and there dont seem to do much or not as much as some would have you believe about
Sugar being poison, red meat being poison, meat being poison and cooked food being poison to the body. All pretty much fringe ideas. Just eat moderately, have the odd piece of cherry pie. Do intermittent fasting daily or some other variation maybe longer fast yearly ,do your exercise regularly don't eat 5000 calories a day and you should be good to go.
