I have a female Yorkie about 11 lbs and tonight I checked her ears. We have been having a bad time with fleas and she has been scratching the he** out of her ears. I have been very busy with other things this year and trusted my immediate family to look after my dogs. I thought she was scratching because of fleas but I put some tea tree oil on her and when I checked tonight, not a flea. So I wondered if she had ear mites and both ears are closed up. I don't remember what the condition is called but I recognized it because her son had the same thing in one of his ears. I still have some of his medicine although I don't have him any longer. It is called Tresaderm and I would like to know of a natural way of treating this condition instead of using this medicine. Sylvia

Hi Sylvia,
Cauliflower ear could be caused by an ear infection, mites, or other parasites. Frankly, I have no idea how that medicine would react with your dog, what side effects it would have, especially if it is geared towards humans, so I would not use it.
What I would do is put colloidal silver and tea tree oil in the dog's ears. Massage it tenderly and then make sure to get the liquid out. Am I to understand that he has hematomas in both ears? If hematomas are present, you may need to see a vet. Sometimes surgery is necessary. However, before using any antibiotics, I would rely on colloidal silver.

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,716,169My dog Willow, a chocolate lab, has allergies this time of year and her ears get really itchy. If I don't keep up on top of it, her ears can get quite inflamed and swollen, looking like raw meat with a dark brown to black discharge. The last time it happened, it was a yeast and bacterial infection. It required an ear medication that had antibiotic, antifungal and anti-inflammatory meds in it. If it is that bad...then I second Luella's advice to get to the vet.
If I keep on top of Willow's ears by cleaning them frequently with the ear wash the vet gave me and giving her a claritin for the itchiness we're ok. But if I let it go even for a week, her ears are a mess. So far, knock on wood, we haven't had to go to the vet at all this year.

This is a reply to # 1,716,183As a holistic dog breeder, I have always used Colloidal Silver mixed with raw apple cider vinegar in their ears. I have seen it get rid of mites and ear infections. I have heard many good reports form people following what I do, it works!
I have a page on it too.
