Spray-on photovoltaics to turn steel into solar
Eco Factor: Photosensitive dyes could be sprayed onto steel for energy generation. Tata Steel-led Corus and Swansea University (Wales, UK) have collaborated to bring about solar conversion of steel sheets with a pioneering spray-on technology. As the developers plan to coat steel sheets with photosensitive dyes, they would act as power generating solar cells. The technology is supposed to work even in diffused sunlight. Some of the possible uses suggest daubing fuel-cell-powered autos with it. It would enable fuel cell vehicles to generate electricity for creating hydrogen and oxygen. Moreover, homeowners could utilize this technology, as it integrates with the existing buildings in an economically sound way. Therefore, a minimal investment on infrastructure is required.
This is interesting technology, there has been some outstanding research in this field lately.

I can see solar cells getting cheaper and cheaper to produce, and hopefully this will see solar become one of the primary sources of renewable energy.
These ideas increase my optimism about the future greatly :)

One of the inventions I have been wanting to work on for a long time is a clear photovoltaic glass for windows. I know how I want to do it, just have not had the funds for the prototype.
What really sucks is that I saw the idea I was working on 20 years ago for nuclear powered photovoltaic batteries just came on the market. Oh well, not the first time I have seen my ideas come to fruition by someone else. This is why I need to hurry and get my lab built and equipped.
