Tea at night and SWF is the "ideal". Most if not all healthfood stores carry some form a laxative tea. Smooth Move being the most common. Personally I prefer Get Regular Yogi Tea both for it's nicer flavor and it's gentler effect
The leg thing is not uncommon but usually not at this early stage. Using molasses is fine and good thing if you find it palatable. I tried it once and while I can take a straight spoonfull of it OK, mixed in the lemonade was on foul tasting concoction for me and I'm not a finicky person at all but I could not have sustained and MC if I had to mix it in the lemonade.
Generally after the 3rd day or so you will no be having any more solid eliminations and what you'll have is what it's come to be known round these here parts and "butt pee" which will be a irridecent yellow orange color.
Unlikely that you will gain weight unless you are doing inordinate amounts of the molasses and syrup. Even at the maximun 12 drinks per day you will only be consuming 1200 calories.
Hi Pepe,
thanks for the reply... i'm glad to know that i can use the molasses.. actually it really tasted like the "black sugar" that we sometimes use here in the Asian countries... still i would prefer the maple syrup...too bad that i can't afford to buy the maple syrup here every now and then, as it's too expensive and i'll finish a bottle of 15oz in just like 2 - 3 days... i'm not sure how much they're selling at your place, but here in Singapore it costs me a good USD23/btl...
I still feel sore on my legs today... i'm not sure how long it'll last. So, on normal circumstances, when do you usually will feel the legs soreness?
yes, i agree with u. i don't have the solid eliminations anymore, but still i only had 2 bm so far today. That was also with the help of laxative tea that i drank last nite. maybe becoz i haven't been drinkin' enough water? I only sip on peppermint tea...
Ya, i hope i won't be gaining weight with all the extra consumptions i had, but i haven't been loosing any too even after my 4th day... Guess i just need to be patient and stick with the cleanse. Although, it's hard sometimes thinkin' of the food and seeing ppl eating in front of me.. LOL!
Cheers!
Hi there,
Today is my 10th day into the fast and I’m pretty proud of myself that I’ve sustained till now with not much of complications or hunger pangs... In fact, the fast really works wonders for me as I haven’t got any sinus problem till now just after 3rd day into the fast. I used to have sinus problem every morning when I wake up, with bad running nose, watery eyes, etc. Besides this, I sort off have this skin irritation on my upper right eyelid (not sure whether it is eczema), but it’s pretty much due to my sinus and allergies. When I looked into the mirror this morning, I realized that the skin irritation already disappeared. I’m sure it’s probably gone few days back, just that I didn’t realize it. So, I’m very happy with the results except that I don’t think I’ve lost any weight. Not sure why though. I read in the forum that this fast it’s not really meant for loosing weight which this is also one of my goals. In fact, I’m beginning to worry that it will slow down my metabolism rate as I have not been eating any solid foods and the body will actually reacts the opposite way as in storing fats in case I’m starving myself again. So, rather than loosing weight, I might be gaining weight as well. And also due to slow metabolism rate (as it does for any fast as well), my body will not be burning as fast as it used to and once I’m back on my regular diet, the weight will bounce back faster or more.
So, I’ve decided to stop my cleanse soon and the only way for me to loose weight is doing more exercise and cutting down on my diet. I know a lot of people told me that everything lies on your diet. But, it was hard for me as before I start the fast, I have cravings for high sugar content food and chocolates. But, surprisingly I haven’t been having this craving for the past 10 days (except occasionally extra sip on maple syrup & molasses). I know it takes 21 days to break the bad habits. So, I will continue with this by eliminating myself to the sugary food/snacks. I wonder now whether I should just continue the fast for few days more until I finish up my molasses (think it’ll last another 3 days) or really stick to it for at least 21 days (but not 40 days). I’m really worried that I won’t be loosing much weight and my metabolism rate will start to deteriorate. Anyone has any advice on this? Or should I continue the fast and incorporating some exercises like walking and running? Will these help?
I also need some advices on breaking the fast. I read there are 2 ways for people with vegetarian and normal diet. I’m in the normal diet group and it’s pretty hard for me to get vegetable broth in Singapore at food stalls and the place I’m staying now, we are not allowed to cook. Is there any other ways of breaking the fast? Would appreciate some suggestions please.
Thanks!
You're "rationalizing" stopping because of the weight/metabolism thing and that is just not a valid rationalization because whether fasting or not the fact is that if you want to loose weight you'll still hafta exercise and eat right regardless. Just that when you fast the exercising is crucial to bring the metabolism back up. The other thing is that you are NOT "starving". Your system is in fasting mode and producing ketones. Totally different thing. Do some research and find out how "fasting" actually works. What fasting will help you with in regards to loosing weight is that you are eliminating toxins and other debri from your system thus your system will operate more efficiently post fast and you will be getting more nutrition from less food. Tain't rocket science. It's a matter of educating yourself and understanding how it all works and how to use fasting properly and what you hafta do post fast if weight loss is your goal.
On the broth well you do the best you can and maybe use some good quality canned veggie soup and strain the solids out. Not the best thing to do but if it's all you got you do the best you can with what you got. Can you get anything like fruit smoothies? That could be a possible alternative.
Hi Pepe,
Thanks for your reply. You are right. I shouldn't let myself rationalizing about this (is like i'm just giving excuse to drop the cleanse early!!). Anyway, i'm already into my 14th day of cleanse. At the moment, I won't dare to think of doing a full 40-day cleanse. What i'm going to do is to set a small goal each time and it'll be much easier for me to achieve. My next goal is to do a 21-day cleanse. After this, i will continue to target for a 30-day and so on. No doubt it'll take lots of determination and patience, but for now a 21-day shouldn't be a problem! ;)
To achieve weight loss, i've been doing walking every morning since 1 week ago and i really feel great. I weighed myself this morning, and to my surprise i lost a good 5.5lbs... I'm so happy!! I only have about 9lbs to loose now... hehe! Maybe it'll be a slow process for me... but, hey at least i'm loosing and on top of that, i got rid of my sinus for now!
By the way, one question. I went to an Indian mall today, and saw some jaggery (ingredients : pure sugar cane juice). Is this a good replacement for molasses? I read in Stanley's book that initially it's supposed to be sugar cane juice but just because it's not easy to get them, so it is replaced with maple syrup. I bought 2 packets and tried mixing it with the lemon & cayenne pepper and it tastes good... :)
Cheers!
My best advice is NOT to look at the scale at all or place any goals based on numbers cause regardless of how well you break you will still gain a good bit of weight back just from your intestines filling up again. The scale is not indicator of what is actually happening whether the weight loss is from fat or just water wight etc Keep your focus on the gradual breaking of the fast and your exercise and balanced nutrition goals post fast.
While walking is "better than nothing" if you expect to get your metabolism back up post fast you're gonna hafta hit the reality button and make a commitment to do some "real" exercise whether it be aerobic or resistance training and I mean were you work up a "real" sweat, get your heart rate up and are breathing hard or you'll be kinding (rhymes with lying) to yourself.
I wouldn't trust any kind of processed powder in lieu of fresh Sugarcane juice. 1st it will not contain the live enzymes of fresh juice and who know what chemicals and preservatives are used and how the process affects the mineral and vitamin content Real sugar cane juice does not keep at all even refrigerated and must be made fresh daily. I will tell you that I have tried the lemonade with the cane juice and it it is delicious and more so specifically with limes for me. I found it in the states in a farmers market that also caters to a large Indian/Asian polulation. The market was a 20 mile drive and the cost was prohibitive so I only tried it for one day. I'm surprised that there are not a number of places in Thailand(?) which I believe is where you are right? or any asian country for that matter where fresh made sugarcane juice is not readily available and also very cheap. The latin and more specificaly cuban comunities also use fresh cane juice as a refreshment drink and one can radily find it in large Cuban comunities like So Florida.
BTW if you find the SCJ fresh its not used like the BSmolasses and MS but it takes the place of the water in the recipe
Hi Pepe,
Ya, you are right. Besides good to know that I’ve been loosing weight a bit, but it also adds up to my stress thinking that why the numbers have not been going down everytime when I look at the scale. I’ve stopped looking at it and only measure it by the way how I fit into my clothes. So far so good and I think I’m still loosing, just not fast enough. I read that if one tends to loose too fast, it means mostly due to water retention. It will be normal to loose up about 2lbs in a week. And I’m still doing exercise in the morning. Interval walking for about 45mins to boost up my metabolism rate. Of course like what you’ve mentioned, post fast is important too. I will incorporate more vege, fruits and nuts into my diet and more cardio exercises along the way.
I think it does make sense with the jaggery. Although it’s stated there “pure sugar cane juice” but we wouldn’t know the way they actually processed it. When I used the jaggery for a day, I had a not-so effective BM the next day, so I switched back to using black molasses after that. The sugar cane juice it’s not cheap from where I stay (Singapore). I paid a good USD2.50 for less than 1.5litres and it’s less than half of the amount if you are staying places like Malaysia or Thailand. So it’s expensive and not an option for me though it tastes really good!
I’m already into my 20th day and I’m really proud of myself for sticking so long. I have another 20 days to go… *keeping my fingers crossed*
Cheers!
Hi Fubsycooter,
I'm into my 27th day... I can't believe myself it myself that i've came so far... :) Not much of food cravings.. though i still have a bit of hunger pangs now and then.. But, it'll be sorted out with more lemonade drinks.. hehe! Can't wait to finish up my 40th day... How about u? How's ur progress so far?
Do you still do the SWF in the morning? As for me, I've not been doing for a while now.. as usually i'm takin' the laxatee at nite, and before the SWF, I'll get 1-2 BM in the morning... So, i decided to stop it. I wouldn't want to keep goin to the toilet during office hours... :P LOL!
Cheers!
Hi Rose,
Thank you for your reply... Yes, it's my 39th day today... Wednesday will be my my last day... i'm so proud of myself that i've stayed so long... 40 days!! I feel great now and dun have much cravings... and I'm determined to have a healthy lifestyle after this... Though i'm not loosing a lot of weight... but i'm very happy as i can fit back to my old pants now... :) as long as i feel good! :)
Good luck for your fast... How long do u intend to do? I'm going to do the fast again later this year... Maybe not till 40 days... but it's really good to do it once a while, to give ur body a rest from all the food.. haha!
Happy fasting! You'll free great after the fast!
Cheers!
Hi All,
I finally completed my 40days fast! Yes, i did it!! I can't believe it i've done it...! I started breaking my fast yday with OJ mainly in the morning and afternoon. But, couldn't resist the temptations of some roasted almonds... Yikes! Had a few of them and it was okay. No stomach discomfort or anything.
Today my 2nd day of breaking the fast and still on my OJ and had a quite a couple more of almonds. So far so good, no pain and all too... This evening i should be able to take some broth as recommended in the book, but i wouldn't be able to prepare the broth myself (as the place i'm staying, we are not allowed to cook). So, i bought a pack of organic soup the other day. I guess this is the best option i have for now. As for tomorrow, i should be able to take soup and light salad for lunch & dinner. But, i was thinking whether i can go ahead and break my fast with eggs on 4th day onwards? Anyone has any experience before? I kinda need to break my fast a bit faster as i'll be having a reunion dinner with some girlfriends next Saturday, and i wouldn't want to be over eating by then and upset my stomach. So, perhaps by breaking it slightly faster will help?
Appreciate your suggestions.
By the way, hope all of you are doing well with the fast! Happy Fasting!
Cheers!
Congrats. You just finished the easy part where everything is all figured out for you . Now comes the make or brake of really reaping the real rewards in the rebuilding faze.
Breaking gently and slowly is VERY important on long fast and the period should definitely be extended and only easily digested foods should be consumed for at least the next 2 weeks and eggs is definitely not one of the things you want to eat this close to breaking a long fast. You should stick to mosty raw, no dairy, meat or flour products. I'm on my 20th day and when I read your question on the egg thing the picture of a frying egg in oil popped into my head and activated my gag reflex ;+D One of the things that I really enjoy on my long fasts is that when I'm done all I want to eat is clean fresh live food and juices.
I would imagine that you should be able to find Miso past in any Asian country so I would say that would be a very good choice. Miso is very nutritious and will help repopulate the beneficial bacterias in your gut. I would recommend the lighter miso like the ones made with rice. After long fasts it's recommended to take some good probiotics to replenish the intestinal flora since they gets depleted during a fast. My favorite probiotic is Kefir but I would be surprised if you found that in an Asian country. I could be wrong. If there are any health food stores where you're staying you might consider getting some probitics. The good ones will be in the refigerated section. You can get liquid or pills.
If you are anyhting like me hanging with friends generally includes fermented beverages knudge knudge wink wink;+D. A word of warning after a long fast the stuff will hit you like a freight train and knock you silly. I speak from experience........;+D I was hanging with some buds and I drank 4 beers about 2 or 3 weeks after a 40 dayer and I was very careful and drank them slowly and for each beer I refilled each bottled with water 2 twice and drank it. The 4 beers were over a period of 5 hrs +/-. I don't even remember getting home. The next morning I was missing one of my sandals and after looking and looking around the house I found it outside in my patio...............
