My twin brother was told last year that he has Dupuytren's. It was after he broke his little finger playing tennis but he told me he felt something before that after straining his hand doing some shoveling.
His is a mild case but he is considering surgery or a needle procedure to improve his tennis game. I am looking for alternative help for him as I have just been discovering wonderful help for myself with body work called "Egoscue" and "MELT".
"Egoscue" and "MELT" have to do with muscle work exercise for full body alignment and to hydrate connective tissue, muscle or fascia.
I have suggested he find a massage therapist who works with myofascial release. Perhaps acupuncture could help?
His doctor told him to stop taking glucosamine because it could make the condition worse by adding fiber to the collagen cord. I don't really understand this condition but I just found out today that my twin has this condition so I hope to come up with some helps for him.
He has actually been thinking of cutting the cord he feels in his hand himself! This is crazy but I think he missed his calling to be a surgeon. He likes to work with his own stitches and tinker with repairing his teeth etc. He also has a very high tolerance for pain. He is a real do it yourself kinda guy - I on the other hand am a very alternative health and exercise seeking girl. Of course he most likely won't listen to me (a prophet is not accepted in his own land). That won't stop me from loving him and trying to help.
Please let me know if anything is working for you Trapper? And what you think about massage, physical therapy and body work for this condition?
I may make a new post on this to see if I can get some other thoughts. I am praying for answers for my bother and help for others as well.
