i'm in the same boat, I've had high cholesterol for years..tried different dieting and cut down on red meat. It didn't make much of a change. It runs in my family so i'm thinking most is being made in the body. You should look at the actual numbers for hdl and ldl and perhaps you can do things to bring the good cholesterol up and the bad cholesterol down.
There are other things you could try like Niacin, but I've never gone down that path.
I had a full heart check up like echo test, ekg, stress test, and holter monitoring. All came back normal. I'm 31 and have no blockage anywhere but it's still something I think about.
I used to have a total cholesterol count of 6.9. over the years it has dropped to 5.6. I guess that's not a bad drop but it's been 4 years of doing things.
I started to suspect it was related to digestion because I've had candida and other gut issues which are slowly getting better because I'm doing a lot for it. I also take psyllium quite often which helps take out cholesterol in the gut before it absorbs into the blood.
High fiber is good and lots of water.
Other than that I'm going to hang on for a few more years and see if my changes help it drop even further
