I don't know nor have I ever claimed the founding fathers were Christians because I simply have not done any real research into it. I will tell you one thing, George Washington and Samuel Adams were not atheists. Just look at their acceptance speeches when they became the first and second Presidents of the United States.
but if god is perfect and the bible is perfect, why does it contain so many contradictions and incongruencies??
That question about the bible is something that made me wonder for years. I have not studied every little contradiction atheists have pointed out. I do remember InnerCalm posting the list of contradictions from that site and I think it was run by atheist(s)? I think it was the first one I read where I saw it could have been construed as a contradiction but I knew it wasn't. I didn't bother to read further because after debating many people on the net about various things, I believe the vast majority of us believe what we want to.
Our human left hemispheres can only process so much information at one time and when you combine that with our irrationalities and our very limited and finite perspective, it is even worse as a tool for discerning what the truth is.
This morning I realized something again, my heart isn't into debating people as much as it was and I think I should take a hiatus from debate forums for a while.
One of the problems with an English interpretation of the Bible is what I will call the language barrier. Gerald Shroeder (scientist and ID proponent) touched on this in one of his books. The exact meanings of a word and to a word to word translation can become lost in interpretation.
The other issue is perspective,... and our interpretations can be way off depending on the paradigms we use to interpret something.
