Hypothyroidism contributes to anxiety. For this reason, I would suggest you go to the Iodine forum for advice.
As with any condition, you cannot treat anxiety with one supplement. It encompasses nourishing, not only your body in every aspect, but also your mind and emotions. Healing involves Body, Mind, and Spirit.
The following suggestions will help:
Diet is very important. Eliminate all sugar, processed and junk foods. Eat as much raw foods, such as fruits and vegetables as possible. Keep in mind, that those of us with anxiety disorders are also hypoglycemic and this condition is responsible for many of our unwanted symptoms.
L-Tryptothan I-Theanine Omega 3's Trace Minerals. Make sure they are plant derived. These are also available from Utopia Silver the above coupon code will get you a 15% discount. Bach Flower Remedies. Go through the list and pick products that relate to your particular symptoms. Hawthorne Berry Syrup will stop a racing heart. Look into iodine supplementation. I take SSKI and magnascent. You can get added information as to the benefits of iodine with regard to anxiety and panic conditions in the iodine forum. During this time, make sure you do things to relax such as relaxation exercises and meditation. If you are not familiar with these, I will be happy to give you pointers. Also, the emotional freedom technique (EFT) should be of help. This works by tapping on certain acupressure points throughout the body. My Best, Luella

Hello Luella;
You know I take thyroid meds but I also take a thyroid supplement called Metabolic Advantage. I found out later it's also for weight loss. This supplement has B12,Iodine,Mgnesium,Zinc,Copper,maganese,Molybdenum,Sodium,L-tyrosine and a multiGlandular Complex for the liver,lungs,kidney ,heart and spleen.
Are there any realy good thyroid supplements? I mean I should'nt just add something like 5HTP or Passion Flower? I mean I used to have lot's of panic attacks in the past even as a child I was very shy so it's like a social anxiety thing. It tends to manifest when going to church or for a job interview or something but not when going to work on a daily basis. I had an anxiety attack this morning but you say it is due to the hypothyroidism. I will look into those other supplements I just thought taking a thyroid supple would help my thyroid issues I was'nt sure if the anxiety thing was in a class by itself, but I guess it is. Thank you and I will look into the Iodine Forum.
Hypothyroidism could be a cause among many. In some instances it could be the sole cause. But with your description of social anxiety, other factors may be at play to which hypothyroidism could contribute.
Years ago, I, too, suffered from anxiety and severe panic attacks and I also had a sluggish thyroid. However, my anxiety was not necessarily social anxiety, mine was propelled by fear caused by unresolved emotional issues. So what I am saying is that if there is an emotional component, it must also be addressed. Healing from anxiety and panic is very complex because in many instances it has an emotional and a physical base. And it is a very individual condition. There is basically not a cureall for everyone. However, the supplements I described above are the ones that correct the nutritional imbalance in the body and relieve anxiety.
The best thyroid supplement is iodine. I take SSKI and magnascent daily that I get from Trapper. A great many people are deficient in iodine and they have no clue. Iodine deficiency comes at a cost one way or another. Yet, as you will read from the description of the supplements in my prior post, other nutritional deficiencies come into play. All are important and diet plays a vital role.
I hope I answered your question.

Panic attacks are spiritual in origin and can be controlled/cured through spiritual techniques - beginning with grounding. When spirit is not present in the body it is easy for the body to panic, so staying grounded, in your body and in the present helps to rid yourself of the panic attacks. We can live only now and trashing one's self for "mistakes" in the past or ideals or perfection that one can never achieve all contribute to the problem. Accepting one's self as we are right now including all our "shortcomings" can eliminate the panic attacks. By failing to accept one's self as we are at the present time is a signal of self-hate. I've dealt with that a lot. A good book on self-hate is "Compassion and Self-Hate" by Rubin is an excellent insight into this problem.
If you've had difficult/traumatic experiences in your life as I and millions of others have, it is easy to split/leave the body and when you do that other invasive energies take over. Those are the root cause of panic attacks. From the book Courage to Heal: "Splitting" also describes the feeling the survivor has when she separates her consciousness from her body, or "leaves" her body (Bass and Davis, 1988, p.42).
I've cured my panic attacks through meditation which includes grounding, centering, and activating my chakras/energy system and in the process have learned to recognize myself as spirit - separate from my body.
Well one thing I do know is that I don't hate myself and I know that in the past I've had tramatic experiences in my child hood. I have delt with this for along time over the years and took meds only for a short time and God had healed through mediatating on the word of God. I've been recently healed from an ailment which used to torment me for years but now that the ailment is gone it's something that I know I need to deal with still.
It's like when a person who's may have had weight issues and even after losing the weight still have to deal with the other issues that may have plaged them over the years. I'll take it God in fasting and prayer because I have been dealing with some personal family issues which could have triggered them, but thanks you all for the imput. Because I hadn't really had one in a good 5 months.
You have an excellent faith and direction and I'm sure that has brought you the past few months without panic attacks.
You and I and everyone else are an eternal spirit - we are not our bodies. With your faith I'm sure that you recognize that. We can also come to recognize the spirit we are through the spiritual technique of grounding, whether during meditation or not, which brings you as spirit into your body to take control and release anything that is interfering with your connection to god.
Childhood traumatic experiences are an excellent source of panic attacks. It's great that you have turned around and faced them because the terror resides for a long, long, time unless we have an outlet to release them and if we don't - it's real easy for them to turn into panic attacks.
A few years ago if anyone were to tell me that I had self-hate, I wouldn't have believed them. Self-hate is simply all the things that we have put together to cover up our true feelings and the more that we get in touch with our true feelings of anger, joy, love, hate and all the rest which everyone has, the more we let go of our self-hate. The "Compassion and Self-Hate" book, written by an esteemed psychiatrist, gives insight into these blocks to joy and love and I've used the ideas presented there during my meditations with beneficial results.

Had you told me that 10 years ago I could believe you but I honest to God don't have a hate issue towards myself. In fact I've been to busy with school and work. I forgiven myself and people from my past. Right now God is blessing me in my life and I'm happier than I've been in a long time. I've been daling with some issues with family being distant because of me relocating, this has nothing to do with me hating myself or hating anyone. Yes it hurts sometimes but I do have my own life to live and I'm sure they will come around when they are ready but life is too short.
I don't waste my time and energy trying to change things I cannot. I pray about it,give to God, and go on with my life.
Lolite;
I believe as you said it's has to do with my thyroid levels because when I used to get them at times they would trigger asthma attacks. I'm going to the doctor Friday and I had asked my doc to switch my thyroid meds but I forgot to get my blood test done. I'm going to get my labs done this time because at times I really feel fatigue.
It's only when I take my vitamin B's do I feel relief. Sometimes when I don't eat I tend to have more energy so it's possible it's thyroid related. That is why I take the thyroid supplement because taking Levothroxine isn't enough for me. I constantly feel tired but because the thyroid works with the nerves and controls the body when my thyroid is not balanced I know it because I gone through this since I was 15 so when you know your body you just know. I have also been tired too with my classes and working because sometimes I sleep every other day, so that may being a part in this as well.
I honestly don't feel that depression or anything played a part because I have been quite happy but sometimes these attacks just come unexpectantly and sometimes I'm caught off guard. So I may get my blood checked before going to the doc's so that I can get my results. But I'm suppose to take HRT because a hystorectomy a couple of years ago, could all this be working together? because I think I'm going to take something,even if it's over the counter.
