I don't know the specifics of as to why.

Small amounts of baking powder simply increase the PH of the chlorous acid solution (activated Miracle-Mineral-Supplement ) and make it less acidic. It actually has no effect on the amount of chlorine dioxide in the solution.
You can add enough to soak up all the liquid in the solution, but the chlorine dioxide gas will still be there.
Jim Humble is wrong in stating that it will neutralize the chlorine dioxide. He may have been referring to buffering the PH of the solution, but that does not neutralize it.

I guess we must be getting confused here...I, too, thought that baking soda would weaken the efficacy of Miracle-Mineral-Supplement . I believe there were some posts months ago, cautioning about brushing your teeth with baking soda and taking Miracle-Mineral-Supplement immediately afterwards -ie. that you had to be sure you really rinsed well and didn't ingest the baking soda.
Maybe we're all becoming armchair scientists and should leave the heavy lifting to those better trained! I'd appreciate some clarification on this point, please.

Baking soda buffers the PH of the activated Miracle-Mineral-Supplement solution. This makes it less acidic, but it has no effect on the amount of chlorine dioxide in the solution.
When you raise the PH of the chlorous acid solution, it slows down the release of chlorine dioxide, but it does not neutralize it.
