It depends a lot on the toxin. Some can be slow to present problems, and some fast. Some are readily dealt with and others are not. Some are produced as a byproduct of our own bodies, and others we ingest or are otherwise exposed to . And what is toxic can also be beneficial. For example water and oxygen are both essential for life, but they can also be toxic to the body. So it is not an easy thing to answer.
Our bodies also have various means by which to detox. The liver plays a primary role in detoxification as does the excretory system. The flora help to break down some toxic substances. Certain foods can help bind heavy metals, can help build the flora, and can help with the elimination of toxins. Breathing helps increase oxygen levels that can help oxidize certain toxins.
So the best thing you can do is to eat well, avoid stimulants, keep your stress down, avoid any pharmaceuticals that are not absolutely necessary, and cleanse your liver with bitters at least once in while if not regularly. Deep breathing exercises also help, and don't forget plenty of mineralized water.
Sally, yea I hear ya. I only had basically ONE major issue prior to menopause and that was being overweight. Since menopause it seems everything is spiraling downhill!!!
By orange discoloration on the eyelid, I do have something similar sometimes although I'm not sure if it's the same thing or not. I took a pix once when I got it. Does it look like this?
I have always wondered what this is!!
wow! so it is a hypo symptom. I wasn't sure. Mine isn't as dark but exactly in the same place, but more of a light orangey colour.
I wonder what actually causes it. A deficiency caused by the hypo? I have short eyebrows too which i know is a common hypo symptom.
I suspected it was to do with the hypo. It is a bit of a relief to know i'm not the only one with it.
The condition you are referring to is called Xanthelasma palpebra, and are lipid deposits in the skin. It can occur with several conditions including hypothyroidism and liver disorders.
I used to be pretty healthy before menopause and hypo
Hypothyroidism is a common side effect of menopause as unopposed estrogen suppresses the thyroid.
Do you think it is possible that with poorly functioning liver, thyroid, lack of stomach acid, poor metabolism, as I believe are some of my issues, that over the years toxins [chemical, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, environment, etc.] would not be removed from the body or not be removed quickly enough therefore resulting in excess fat accumulation as a protection mechanism to the body to protect it from too many toxins?
Yipes, that was a mouthful.
More simply put, I've heard that excess fat is often a protection against too many toxins in the body. Therefore, until the toxins are removed, the fat will not budge.
What say you, O wise one. :)
Yes.
Wise ones use very few words.
Just kidding. When the liver reaches its saturation point it cannot process any excess toxins. So in order to protect itself the body converts the excess toxins in to fat for storage until the liver has the opportunity to process those toxins. This is why people can get so sick when they go on fasts. As the body starts breaking the fat down for a fuel source the toxins are released back in to the bloodstream leading to toxicity. So cleansing the liver and water are great aids in reducing body fat.
I wonder if this would have anything to due with overweight or obese people suffering more, and the death rate being higher, when they contract swine flu.
Possible, but I would think the problem would be more that they have harder time trying to get sufficient oxygen in the first place due to the higer strain on the cardio-pulmonary system.
How would lack of sufficient oxygen contribute to the likelihood of contracting diseases??
It does not play as much of a role as people make it out to be. For instance, we hear all the time that lack of oxygen causes cancer. This is based on a misquote of Otto Warburg. People claim he said that lack of oxygen causes cells to go cancerous because the cancer cells are anaerobic. And I have heard people take this even further by claiming that Warburg claimed that a lack of oxygen causes all diseases. Problem is that this is not what Warburg said. What Warburg said was that cancer cells will ferment REGARDLESS of whether oxygen is present. And he never applied this to other diseases. So sales sites took liberty and changed what Warburg really said to help boost sales of their products. And this misquote has been repeated over and over and has even grown because nobody bothers to check if the claims of sales sites are true or if they are tweaking their information to fit their needs.
If lack of oxygen caused cancer and other diseases then why don't we see epidemics of these problems in COPD patients and cystic fibrosis patients that are chronically oxygen deficient? Or even extremely obese people who are often oxygen deficient?
Decreased oxygen can impair the function of cells, but the body is just going to give priority to the parts of the body that are most required to maintain life. So the brain and heart would get priority, then parts of the immune system. Less critical areas such as the extremities and skin will see a reduced oxygen supply.
There is so many different oxygen products around at the moment. I've never wanted to buy any of them. It sounds like hype to me.
Yes, generally they are. Ozone therapy is one of the few oxygen therapies I really like. But it is not practical to do it all day long to maintain oxygen levels. So deep breathing is still the best way to maintain proper oxygen levels.
Just another way to take our money. Although I like the dental oxygen products for whitening.
Will taking silica improve whiteness of teeth? I believe it helps the enamel.
Silica strenghtens the enamel, it does not whiten it. Try sprinking sage leaf (the same used in coooking) on to your toothpaste. It is a tooth whitener and antiseptic.
