I'm 26 years old & suffer with PCOS.
When I was 11 or 12, I started getting teased at school because I had a small amount of wispy dark hair on the side of my face.
I grew very self conscious of this and in an attempt to stop the teasing, I borrowed my dad's razor to shave the hair off. And everytime it grew back, I shaved it off again.
After 13+ years of doing this, you can imagine the state my face is in. As time went on, more hairs appeared in other places & these also got shaved off - making my facial hair spread to a larger area.
I'm now at the point where I shave daily down the sides of my face, on my chin & jawline, and on my neck. Being naturally dark haired, my stubble is very noticeable and I have a very unfeminine 5:00 shadow. Not to mention the soreness I get from dragging razors across my face so frequently.
I have tried "Aculight" in the past, which was a total waste of money. Creams and waxes do not work & only irritate my skin further.
I stumbled across this website a few weeks ago & read the postings on Saw Palmetto. To be honest, my initial thought was "How can a few herbal pills reverse years of razor abuse?". However, I was intrigued & decided to look Saw Palmetto up on the Holland & Barrett website, finding that it would cost less that £5 for 100 pills. I decided that anything was worth a try so I ordered some online.
I've been taking Saw Palmetto for just over a week now, the tablets are 450mg & you are supposed to take 2 tablets twice a day. I'll be honest, I have forgotten to take some doses - but I'm sure I'm starting to notice a difference. My stubble growth seems to be a lot slower at the moment, and also a bit softer. The 5:00 shadow doesn't seem so dark now either.
While I can't prove that Saw Palmetto is to thank for this, I am not taking any other medication that could be affecting this.
If anyone is wary of Saw Palmetto like I was, my advice was to just give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.
(I'll let you know how I progress with Saw Palmetto - you never know, I might be able to tell you soon that I'm completely hair free!!)

Hey Sleepyhead...
Glad to know someone else has discovered saw palmetto and is benefiting from it. i am 26 too, and I started taking saw palmetto with the same scepticism as u :o)(the same tablets from holland and barrett), twice a day and within a couple of weeks noticed a difference, the hairs were still growing but less, and not so coarse and dark, much softer...and i am HAIRY!!! (being asian makes it worse, as we are naturally more bloody hairy!) I was sitting on the net the other day and doing some more research about the herb and came across some articles which said that the actual extract rather than the dried herb (the capsules) works better so i went to holland abd barrett the other day and bought a bottle - they are slightly more expensive, but seem to be working better...its called 'saw palmetto concentrate', look at the ingredients on the bottle and it says 'saw palmetto extract'.
just thought i would share my little experience...let us know how you get on...who knows maybe one day i will be on here saying the same thing ;o)

This is a reply to # 145,523Hi there, Not to take away from the Saw Palmetto, but if you have PCOS you need to try NAC (N-acteyl-cysteine) as it will normalize your insulin which is apparently at the core of PCOS and it's not possible to reverse PCOS without correcting the hyperinsulin problem. NAC has been shown to normalize insulin levels and also to reduce free androgen levels in women with PCOS. I have all the symptoms of PCOS except for cysts on my ovaries and so technically am told I don't have PCOS. I took the NAC and wow, facial hair slowed to almost nothing in 48 hrs and many health problems that I'd had for over 30 years literally disappeared. I can't recommend it highly enough. I got pregnant a month after first taking it and so had to stop taking the NAC but hope to resume soon once bub is weaned as it did astounding things for my health. Bronte

Funnily enough, I read something on here about NAC at the same time as the Saw Palmetto, so got some of that as well. Haven't taken it as much as the Saw Palmetto, cos the NAC ones are like elephant pills - and they smell funny!! haha!!
But i'll start taking it properly now that I know it will help my PCOS.
Oh, congrats on the baby!!! I only wish my partner would agree to us having one. :-(

This is a reply to # 145,523for PCOS there are sites that descibe natural diet cures---I think diets like raw vegetarian. PCOS sounds like a hormone imbalance from meat and milk.
