Red clover is a blood cleanser. Chaparral and hydrangea root are better though. For blood cleansing they can be combined for a better effect. Red clover and chaparral are also frequently combined for cancer.
No, allergies to red clover are not common.
By the way, red clover is also helpful for hormones. It contains the same phytoestrogens as found in soy, plus two others.
To cleanse the liver I would go with bitters. For people who cannot tolerate the bitter taste, they can use bupleurum instead. Bupleurum will cleanse the liver without the requirement of contacting the tongue. So it can be taken in capsules.
Bitters will show results a lot faster. Results are often seen within a day or two. Bupleurum expect a few weeks before seeing any results.
I assume you are referring to cancer? If so, yes. It is particularly good for blood cancers (leukemias, lymphomas, polycythemia) as is pau d' arco. And as with other anti-cancer herbs it is best taken with other herbs, which can also reduce the risk of side effects.
It can be taken safely for a lot longer than 10 days. The concerns are a temporary infertility in both men and women. Fertility comes back when the herb is stopped. And the blood thinning effects. This can be easily countered with herbs that support blood clotting such as alfalfa or nettle. Basically herbs high in vitamin K.
The stuffy nose can be from a few things. If you are taking it in capsules then it is likely an allergy. If you are allowing it to hit your tongue then the bitterness will stimulate the bitter receptors, in turn stimulating the vagus nerve, which will cause the nose to run. I get the same exact reaction whenever I take any really bitter herb on my tongue.
Actually hveragerthi, I was referring to your statement, "Red clover is a blood cleanser. Chaparral and hydrangea root are better though." Also that bitters are a liver cleanser.
If andrographis is the "king of the bitters", would it be successful in the situations which you have mentioned?
Yes, it can be used successfully as a bitter for cleansing. At at the small amount you would need to stimulate the bitter receptors it would not cause blood thinning anyway.
I know they call it the king of bitters, but I have tasted a lot worse!!! Cape aloe concentrate is bar far worse!!!! And that is a taste you just cannot get rid of. It takes close to an hour to go away, and food, drink, or gum does not get rid of the taste. Picrorrhiza is next on my list followed by silk tassel, then andrographis.
I'm glad to know that it is a blood thinner. Thank you for that. I'm not concerned about fertility at my age.
I have used chaparrral externally and internally. Since I see that it is pretty powerful externally, I was worried about the same internally. However, I did try it; and noticed no visible change to bodily functions. I don't stay with anything unless I have noticeable reactions. I loose interest.
Chaparral works great, but it also depends on how you take it. DON'T try to make a tea out of it. It is very resinous and resins and water do not mix. All that will happen is that the resin will separate and stick to the pan wall, and you will end up losing most of the beneficial properties. Not to mention that it really stinks up the house. I always use powdered chaparral mixed with synergistic herbs, which also helps prevent the chaparral from clumping in to a big resin ball when you go to swallow it, or when the capsule opens up.
Yes, very good. I went to Iceland for 2 1/2 months to backpack. Hveragerthi was one of my favorite towns there. There is a little carnival area, geothermal greenhouses, and a little geyser. I don't recall the Icelandic name of the geyser, but I was told the name translates out to "bugbear", which I don't have clue what that means. Had a lot of fun there also teaching the locals how to play frisbee. Akureyri was my other favorite town. It is a really beautiful port town in Northern Iceland.
I did not interpret the information on androgrphis (AP) as professionally as you. I'm was not aware of blood thinning. I use nattokinase for that function; so I will be careful.
This info is what I thought I understood for the cardiovascular benefit of AP.
"AP inhibited the increase in blood pressure that is caused by noradrenaline. Researchers believe that AP has this antihypertensive effect because it relaxes the smooth muscle in the walls of blood vessels. This relaxation prevents the blood vessel from constricting and limiting blood flow to the heart, brain, and other organs in the body."
Yes, andrographis is also a great sterol source. Sterols relax blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure and helps to increase circulation to the heart preventing arrhythmia. Sterols also bind cholesterol removing it from the body. Preventing blood clots though is also essential for heart disease treatment.
