The solution used in a cleansing enema is often plain water, salt water, soapsuds, mild acidic solution (vinegar or lemon juice), or any solution to enhance the cleansing of the bowels.

Trying to take a full 2 quarts at first is usually impossible or very difficult. So take in a much as you can then evacuate. When done with evacuating, take another enema again flowing in as much as you can then evacuating. You repeat this process until you obtain the desired result.

After the cleansing enemas you may take a coffee enema or a probiotic enema or any other medicated enema.

Dear Brenda, No doubt you've received some very helpful replies. I offer one of simplicity. In all my experience (11 years) I need an enema only big enough to cause a bowel movement. I don't allow constipation to continue beyond three days. At that point I fill my enema bag with one quart of fairly warm water. Nursing texts say 100 - 102F. I like mine much warmer - warm to the hand. I use one teaspoon of Dr. Bronner's liquid Castille soap available in any health food store. In fact, it's so well known that, if you ask a clerk what the stuff is for she'll doubtless tell you straight-away "enemas." Lie on your back with the nozzle inserted and buttocks pinched together so as to retain the pipe. I recommend a vaginal pipe inserted only four or five inches. Take the enema slowly. As soon as you feel urgency, pinch the tube and pant like a puppy dog. In seconds the urgency will abate and you can again open the tubing. Once you've taken the enema try to hold it for five minutes - no longer, then take your time on the toilet, massaging your abdomen now and then. Good luck. And questions, email me.

H Brenda. Sometimes I used a mini enema an ounce or two of glycerin and some olive oli or suppository. Then I rest for a few minutes and then I take 2 quarts all at ounce after I use an ounce of peppermint castile soap in 2 quarts of water.. This will cause enough of a contraction to make sure the water leaves all at once... The soap does cramp a bit until everything is out, but it feels good though. They are lower cramps and only for a short time.. I like the menthol feeling coming out... I do this about once a week.. The soap ensures the deepest cleanse.
