With the total confirmed cases of swine flu in the U.S. reaching 20, the federal government had just declared a public health emergency. So far there have been cases reported in California (7), Kansas (2), New York City (8), Ohio (1) and Texas (2), according to the Centers for Disease Control.
There's no doubt that, as a nation as a whole, we're on full alert when it comes to staying healthy and avoiding coming in contact with those who are ill or sick, but what about our pets? Can pets catch swine flu?
The question is one that has a "so far" answer. So far, it appears that dogs and cats cannot catch swine flu. So far, no known cases of pets being affected by swine flu have been reported, and doctors are fairly certain that swine flu is not able to be spread to our beloved pets.
The scientific reasoning for why experts believe animals can't catch swine flu: Our genetics are different, and a flu virus that "fits" our human system likely won't fit within your dog or cat's.
It is not typical for an animal flu to infect humans, however, this particular strain -- the swine influenza A -- has mutated in such a way that humans are susceptible, and can pass it to each other.
To this date, there appears to be no information that says that pets can contract swine flu.

This is a reply to # 1,406,856Listen now. My kitties get their veggies every single day. I mix tons of veggies in my processor and add in some chopped bison or fish. They do get proper food combinations, I lied. lol, bad moderator I am.
My older cat Precious, is old now and she refusing to eat most, so tonight I bought her some TUNA but not the whole wheat bread.

I also have two dogs which are fed on their natural diet of meat.
One is a cross-breed Yorkshire terrier with a chi wa wa.!!
never could spell that. AND another chi wa wa, long haired.
We call the first one "tilly" and the second one "gucci".
Yes my wife AND children follow the NH lifestyle.......most of the time.........but despite my influence they have their own minds and sometimes succumb to peer-pressure.
Mores a pity.

This is a reply to # 1,406,921That is wonderful, two dog family. Chi wa wa, are so cute. When I was not Muslim I had two Shitzu. There names were Benji and Tuni. Of course that was so long ago that I am sure they are dead.
I would really like to know your honest opinion on this Flu thing. Do you think it is for real and if you do what exactly are you doing for your family.

I find whatever you do for your family, is what the forum should think about for themselves. I see alot of doctors talking about what people must do but what are they really doing theirself.

I would up my intake of Vitamin D3 to about 10,000 iu's per day. Stick to raw food according to appetite. Thats it.
I will not catch it, because I am free of toxemia.
Viruses cannot take hold in a non-toxemic body.
Hygiene, cleanliness and proper sanitation are the key in avoiding any potentially contagious disease.
This is how we eradicated cholera and other epidemic diseases.

Love this conversation. LOL! I used to have a shitzu and her name was Pooch. I found her in the middle of nowhere on the road. Actually, just like Tony and I found Heidi. Hmmmm....... Is this a habit?
Well, Pooch was a very "high class" dog and demanded the very best. No kidding. After a while I became convinced that she must not have been happy where she was living and left looking for a new home that would be more suitable to her taste.
Pooch was an older dog, about 10 years old and she died a couple of years after. That was a tragedy.
Now....... does this have anything to do with this conversation? What were you talking about? lol

This is a reply to # 1,407,009Yes, it fits right in girl. My dogs were very snobby too and nobody better step on their rug. Tuni was so sweet and you know what happened, her eye swole up so big that we had to have her eye poked out. The pressure was too much and she was very sensitive to the sun.
After my divorce I gave my dog benji to my exhusband as it is so cruel during a divorce to separate the dogs. Don't you think. So I loaned my ex money to buy a house with and then gave him my dog, lol, I am great.

the first thing wolves eat is the stomach with all its half digested veggies.
a proper canine diet includes fruits & veggies.
