How would I know if I were getting too much Iodine?
I started Iodoral in November, building up slowly from 1 to 4 pills a day. Before I reached 3 pills a day I did not see results. Once I hit 3 pills a day my thinking was much clearer. I could analyze things much better, could more easily make plans and actually carry them out-- which had been nearly impossible before. I usually take two with breakfast and 1 with the evening meal. My swallowing problems have gone away since I have been taking the Iodoral. But suddenly my hair is a total disaster-- very dry, dull, lifeless with no bounce, and some spots where some may have come out. And neither oil or moisturizers help. I have been under UNPRECEDENTED stress lately, however stress never impacted my hair before. Could the Iodine be causing the hair problems? This morning I decided to cut back to one pill a.m. and one p.m. But just a few hours into the morning on 1 morning pill, I am not feeling so good and am very irritable and quite sensitized to sound. I have noticed a little sensitivity to sound the last few days but not nearly this much. Sensitivity to sound has always been a thyroid symptom for me. Does this mean I need the higher dose? or need to cut it? or am addicted to it or what? Any ideas? Note that I have also lost 7 pounds that I would have been better off not losing since last Fall.

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,398,191I dealt with that too. I was dealing with at least three things that could have caused it:
*I had a potassium (and magnesium) deficiency
*I wasn't taking enough selenium (selenimethionine, or yeast-free is safer to take in higher amounts, I take 800mcg a day of selenimethionine when I take that much Iodine per day)
*The Iodine was leeching mercury from my Amalgams and I wasn't eliminating it fast enough because my bowels were backed up (probably due to the magnesium defiency)
I had the Amalgams removed. I supplemented potassium and magnesium and selenimethionine (and vitamin C, too!)
My hair is all growing back and looking "alive" again but it took time.

I think your body have given you a reaction to the stress it has been under; Even if you used to manage this before; when thyroid problems you cannot take as much any longer.
Typically a major break up /big conflict of some kind will make one loose weight, as your mind is set on the problems and not on good eating.
(Others again will eat away the pain and gain weight.)
I have found out that my hair tells me exactly whats going on; if I am down my hair will be down. Your hair is your antenna so to speak; what frequency are you taking in.
within the 14 months I have taken Iodine I have had setbacks,detoxing,strange symptoms ; I so often was afraid I took to much; but it was NEVER the problem.
The problem was always that I didnt take enough of the companion supplements as H o W say; selenium, magnesium etc.
- or that I had to adjust my diet.
For example; my dry skin improved greatly on Iodine &co, but did not heal completely (well; 90 %) until I took a mega multi mineral; high in iron and zinc ++ daily for one month.
I thought my dizziness was a Iodine detox symptom, but it was low iron.

This is a reply to # 1,398,774I have Hashimoto's thyrodidtis and to me sensitivity to noise is usually a sign that I am more stressed than I should be, so in other words the adrenals are affected negatively by whatever is going on.
I agree to make sure you are getting plenty of the companions nutrients you need while taking iodine.

The connection between sound sensitivity, stress / adrenal glands and thyroid issues are interesting.
I had one major flight for my life (or should I say swim) when I was in Thailand on the beach when the tsunami came.
My aftermath was a fright of sounds; and I developed a serious insomnia + a lot of the hypo thyroid symptoms
like palpitations, coldness, dizziness. It took months before it lessened.
I still react to sounds, but not severe; i just didnt know it was so common with Thyroid issues.
I should have known about salt and Iodine back then.

This is a reply to # 1,399,286I am not quite getting your message here-- is homeopathic salt or borax helpful in these cases or is it saying that salt of borax is causing the problem? I have hypertension and use salt but in smaller amounts than most people in this society. I have not really been able to use the salt much as some do when taking iodine, as it raises my blood pressure. Makes me feel good but raises my blood pressure too much. Maybe I could get away with a lesser amount. How much do you use for this purpose? Thanks for the information.

The homeopath in me sometimes wake up from sleep; interesting stuff, but complicated to understand at times.
I dont know if you have read the info in http://www.watercure.com
or the info dr Mercola has on himalaya salt. (other salts will do too, but his info is very thorough) If not I suggest you do; it was a big revelation for me to learn about salt; and the ones I know of with high or low BP have had it regulated after some time on Sea Salt .
Also great for sleep, relaxation, pain +++
High on Water and me also have some posts about salts further down the forum page.

This is a reply to # 1,399,197I am so glad you survived the tsunami! My stress is way less than that but heavy duty for me-- helping taking care of an incapacitated relative which involves constant traveling and long stretches away from home and normal schedule with unpleasant people to deal with,too boot. I will try the things you all said. Your and the others' answers have been very helpful. Thanks to everyone.

This is a reply to # 1,398,966It is not that the sounds startle me or frighten me. I just find music, voices, cooking noise, other normal household noises, especially if there are a lot of them at once, uncomfortable and annoying to the point that I cannot tolerate them or am miserable in their presence. If I can get it down to one noise it is more bearable, especially if the volume is low, but basically my ears crave silence. Silence feels luxurious and restful to them. It feels like they soak in the silence,which is silly since silence is the absence of something. I figure it is mostly adrenals as they are associated with the kidneys and the ears are considered to be the "opening" of the kidneys in Chinese medicine. I had this problem only to a small degree a few days this week. But I know from years ago when I was hypothyroid and adrenal insufficient that the intolerance of sound situation can get more extreme. I am trying to keep it from going there again. It is more of a problem indoors but can happen outdoors too.
