I am somewhat in a quandry. I am a weight loss surgery patient and have lost 135 lbs (surgery was RNY, 2 1/2 yrs ago). I keep weight charts, and I was averaging a weight of 120-122. Then as soon as Mirena was put in (since I have absorption issues and can't take regular birth control, and was having hormone issues - gyn suggested Mirena and I trusted him)... I gained 10 lbs and nothing will get it off. Then, I started gaining midtummy fat/thickness.
I am very distressed about this. I have also started experiencing fatigue, moodiness, problems sleeping, depression, horrible memory loss, headaches, some hotflashes, though minor... and so I believed I was in perimenopause. I had a saliva test run and met with a compounding pharmacist today. He states Mirena needs to come out, and that I have estrogen dominance, the progesterone isn't "low" but the ratio between that and estrogen aren't right, and that the adrenals are stressed and fatigued which probably has affected thyroid as well...
I have PCOS (have for years)/Insulin Resistance/Metabolic Syndrome. I don't know what has caused what... where the problems started... but I am in fear of gaining weight back after all my efforts and hard work and diligence in my eating/exercise regime.
He says I also need to eat brocolli, take Calcium D Glucamate (?), and get a
Colon Cleanse in order to lower the estrogen (E2).
I want to hear some other folks' suggestions and experiences... especially those who have had weight loss surgery. Our bodies are different than non weight loss surgery people, and this pharmacist did only work with one bariatric patient... but her issues were not as complex as mine are.
Are these symptoms/problems due to my health issues, or did Mirena compound them to this point?? I am seeing a new gyn on April 21st who works well with this pharmacist (he is very reputable in our area) and hopefully I can get some answers.... I am still thinking of seeing an endocrinologist to find out more about the issues of Adrenal Fatigue and Thyroid conditions since that is their specialty.
Ideas? Suggestions? comments?
