Great questions!!! Yay! I love learning, don't you?
OK, optimally, you're supposed to juice your fruits and vegetables right when you plan to drink them. I mean, it comes out the bottom of the juicer and as soon as you have a full glass, you chug it down. You've got a gallon of juice to consume in a day.
But, Uny told me another way that is totally acceptable, IF you are careful to follow the directions exactly.
You can juice whatever you plan to drink the next day (for instance, my Green Goddess Nectar, some carrot/beet juice, whatever sounds good or your body is begging you for). You keep pouring your bowl or cup that you are
juicing into, into pitchers- however many pitchers you need for the amount of juices you are making, or just one pitcher, and then rinse it out after each juice is made.
You pour your freshly made juice into individual half pint mason jars- the kind that have those metal rings and good seals- you know, jelly jars. You can pick them up at WalMart and other places. You fill your jars up all the way to the top, to the point that a little juice spills over the top (so of course you are doing this over the sink). It works best for me if I have an able bodied Oompa Loompa to hold the jar while I pour, but y'all might be able to manage holding the pitcher in one hand and the jar in your other hand. Or set the jars down in the sink and pour into all of them.
As soon as the juice is poured (and spilled), you place the lid and the ring on the jar, screw it on, rinse/wipe the jar, and put it in the refrigerator. It is VERY important that you don't have ANY air in the jar when you put on the lid. That's why we let it spill over a little. Why is this so important? Because when the juice is exposed to the air, it is oxidizing (rotting). It is losing the enzymes that make live/raw food "alive." It's the enzymes in the raw food/juice that our body craves and desperately needs in order to regenerate and heal.
Once all those pretty jars of yummy, health-building juices are in your refrigerator, then the next day you just start grabbing them and drinking them throughout the day. If you need to have your juices diluted, then just get a big glass and mix your juice 50-50 with distilled water. EASY.
Now, with IF#2... I am so happy about this. You can drink it with juice. Yay!!!!! The crowd cheers! Do the Happy Puppy Dance! Yup, you can stir it into one of your jars of juice, drink it down, then fill up your same jar with distilled water, swirl it around a bit to get the leftover black stuff off the sides of the jar, drink that, and you're done.
When to take IF#2? Yes, Vernal, you are absolutely correct. You want to take it 5-6 times a day, and you want to take it 30 minutes either before or after a meal. Now, when you are on a juice fast, when is it really a "meal"??? If you want to, you could drink your juices once an hour on the hour, and then take the IF#2 with water 5-6 times a day on the half hour. When I'm on this juice fast/IP, I get lost as to where I am on the IF#2 "doses." "Have I done 5? Or just 4? I can't remember...." So what I have to do is say, "OK, after this activity, I do IF#2 + charcoal." That way it becomes a part of my daily routine.
When I did the IP a few years ago, I was on a raw vegan food plan and had set meal times. With that, I took IF#2 at each end of the day, and when I was fixing each meal. I just began each meal prep by taking IF#2, and that's how I remembered.
I've been on this juice fast for 45 days, but it hasn't been entirely strict. I went for 21 days straight, and my mind said "there's no way a person can go longer than this," and I crashed one weekend. Uny plowed into me for eating junk food on this program! I went another couple of weeks on all juices except for a piece of fruit to take my IF#1 with, and then I thought I would go bonkers if I didn't eat any solid food. Again, psychological. So I had an all vegan Chinese dinner of just mixed vegetables. Uny said she was going to personally whoop my you know what if I did it again. Then last weekend was one of my daughter's 14th birthday. We made banana splits. I tasted a bite to celebrate, but that was it. There have been days when I have panicked, telling Uny I had to have more protein!!!! She's always been a little drill sergeant, saying "Who are you going to listen to? Somebody who writes articles for running magazines, or the greatest healers of all time?" Then she'd go off on this long lecture about all the protein in Superfood, all the vitamins and minerals and fabulous goodies in it, and how I'm getting TREMENDOUS amounts of nutrients in the juices from the live food. So I press on. M'am Yes M'am!!!
How long do I intend to stay on the fast? I guess the honest answer is until it looks like my body is done detoxing. Just like all of us, I'm learning to trust my body's ability to heal itself. A lot of this is uncharted territory for us, but it wasn't uncharted territory for Dr.s Schulze and Christopher.
I didn't mean to write a book... but Uny knows I often do. :-p Hope this helps. Go for it, you guys!
