The past few years I would get outbreaks of foliculitis on my neck behind my ears, and on my scalp. The outbreaks would occur during stressful times. I finally went to the dermatologist. I was prescribed
Antibiotics and steroid cream. While this treatment was helpful for the short term, the outbreaks would come back after I was off the
Antibiotics for a few weeks, and the steroid cream only helped so much.
I researched foliculitis online and found a good website from the mayo clinic.

I took their advice in washing the affected areas twice a day and then applying neosporin. Since, it has cleared up, I use antibacterial soap only in the morning. I don't use neosporin anymore though. Recently, I found something that works better. It is tea tree oil. I found Desert Essence brand 100% australian tea tree oil, 2
oz bottle, i think, $12-15 at whole foods. You should be able to easily find it online.
I surprised how well the tea tree oil is working considering how I was unable to treat the foliculitis for so long. I just wanted to share this information with others.
Good luck.
