Am I overreacting?
I have seriously become absolutely outraged with my bosses for thinking that, just because they smoke like chimneys (even in the front desk office), nobody else seems to mind it. In fact most of the clerks DO mind it.
The fact that they smoke in the office...fine. I could just choose to limit my time in there right? They're not supposed though.
To alleviate the issue of overbooked rooms, they put non-smokers in smoking rooms, and let smokers smoke in the non-smoking rooms! I gave my 2 cents at the issue of letting smokers smoke in non-smoking because it (in my mind) could never be non-smoking again.
THIS TIME, they have 8 rooms for people who paid for reservations ahead of time, and are expecting non-smoking rooms. The travel agents overbooked us.
The clerks were left a note to put them in smoking rooms and NOT TELL THEM!
Are you kidding me? Not tell them? NO WAY!!!
I would go as far as to suggest they stay at a different hotel ON US! It's all about hospitality, right?
That just crosses the line. It's offensive, manipulative, and a serious violation of health standards.
Another issue is that my immediate supervisor is my friend and neighbor. She doesn't know it's been an uphill battle for me to get my boyfriend to smoke outside, so she probably thinks I'm just crazy.
I've let them know how I feel about that before (and I used to smoke!!) but they continue to do underhanded things like this to guests.
I checked the rooms and there is NO possible way they will be able to pass those off as non-smoking. They are just deluded because they smoke all the time.
What the heck should I do? I don't want to put a strain on my relationship with my friend/neighbor/supervisor but I really am so tempted to contact someone with more authoritative power about the issue.
