Hi Donn,
I am very busy at the moment with real world stuff which is why I haven't posted, but this message caught my eye.
I once smoked and was "tricked" by a friend into getting acupuncture in the 1990s, I have mentioned this story elsewhere. To cut it short, acupuncture worked for me, more that I could ever have imagined.
Immediately after the acupuncture I had no desire to smoke. I used to smoke 20 a day. In other words there was no physical craving at all, it was as if I never had smoked before. This feeling persisted indefinitely, ie the desire to smoke did not return. However, regarding the relaxed feeling you mentioned, this disappeared quickly, and it was strange having to cope with reality from a different viewpoint. However it was a very enlightened viewpoint, I immediately realised that I was using cigarettes to deaden my feelings to things that were unacceptable, and I became slightly hyperactive, compared to what I was like before, and attempted to put certain situations right. I began to stand my ground. Others saw this as aggression. I got into trouble for that, and put on weight, but that's another story!
I think the relaxed feeling is just a drugged state. No different to cocaine as you rightly point out. Nowadays I can smell cigarette smoke if I am travelling 200 yards behind a lorry when driving.
I know others here such as Willowley are smoking, and I think Willow mentioned she was going to try and give up on a fast. Good luck if you do!
Before the acupuncture I had tried many times to give up and failed, and know full well the cravings that come on, even months after I made futile attempts to up the conventional way, namely cutting down, cold turkey etc. Especially in situations, such as the desire to smoke after a meal. Acupuncture was an amazing cure. Now I couldn't even entertain the idea of a cigarette, I find the thought of it horrendous!
Now if Willow or anyone tries to give up smoking during a fast, I would be interested to see if the cravings return post fast, or if they don't. If they do, find a good acupuncturist, it might save a lot of suffering.
