Ivermectin and Pyrantel were left out in favor of DEC because it is proving hard to get (I don't want to chew 55 Beef Flavored Heartgard Dog Tabs!). And there was discussion of a fatal reaction that occurs given a certain type of a rare Filariasis infection. DEC is a drug that might be tricky to get through US pharmacies. Seems the CDC provides it to your MD on request. That should be interesting. They are all available from Indian and Mexican pharmacies. Other drugs Darius recommends are triclabendazole and fenbendazole. I only found them as vet meds and may be difficult to get due to recent reports from other posters.

I started out making a matrix of testing that is available and could be done. I have abandoned that because the more I research case histories, the more it appears parasite testing is very hit or miss. So many experts with real experience recommend multiple tests (3-4 to get a definitive ruling due to the high false negatives reported). I am NOT discouraging anyone from getting testing done. I have seen the stuff first hand.

Important that a full course of Albendazole is taken first to address potential scattering issues known to occur with some parasites (Albenza is systemic).

The DEC+Albenza treatment may need to be repeated to fully address both Strongyloidiasis and Filiarasias. This is where testing is important. I suppose there could be some indications from your reaction to the medication. Filiarasias is apparently very rare in North America even in US citizens who travel.

The Prazi taken last is to clean up any remaining cysticercosis resulting from the Niclosamide treatments.

The high dose Albendazole therapy needs further looking into by the board. This is the number one med for treating many of the VLMs (my #1 suspect in scattering sensations and descriptions of scalp/head parasites). It's use in Chronic Disseminated Toxocariasis is also important as that parasitic infection has potential as a chief suspect behind the epidemic of parasites we are uncovering - it originates from your pets. There are case histories of treatment courses lasting two years with Albendazole for some of the VLM Syndromes. It is definitely high on my list to explore the efficacy of this drug.

Treatment for T. Solium VLM is important as it matches many symptoms reported on these boards (head/scalp parasites). Praziquantel treatment takes care of the cysticercosis. If it is a significant infestation, treatment is done in the hospital to monitor and treat potentially life threatening neurolgic and immune system responses from the dying cysts.

Hmmm I'm thinking taking nystatin or diflucan for the full 60 days as well would be complementary.
