I figured there would be more people around to tell you this, but...
Spell Evian backwards. If you think that was a mistake, or that it was simply a coincidence, send that water with its plastic bottle into a lab for analysis. There used to be a collection of certificates of analysis on the net that you could refer to for specific brands and sources, but I haven't been able to find it lately. Might try torrent or one of those stingy download sites.
In a nutshell, Evian is collected from multiple "ok" sources. They force the pH to be agreeable after filtering it lightly with dirty, old equipment and, according to my memory, boiling it for a split second. Once they're done and ready to package it, they pump it through even more dirty equipment and send it flying into a bottle made of recycled trash -- the cheapest they can find. And boom. Slap a label on it and it's natural purified spring-aqua-crystaline-beauty water that helps the planet heal.
Most bottled waters are the same. You're not getting any special treatment by buying the more expensive stuff, usually. I can think of only a couple different bottled/bagged waters that taste healthy.
Invest in a purification method if you decide you have to live in a city. Otherwise, leave the city. Bad food can be tolerated to an extent by the body. Bad water penetrates and poisons.
Oh, and if you really can't do either of those things, at least buy some ionic minerals. You can get some cheaper spring water and boil it in a pot for 5 minutes (that means leaving it at a rolling boil for that exact amount of time or more), then let cool and remineralize the whole batch with a couple drops. It'll still be dirty water, but at least you'll be getting the tools you need to protect against toxic substances. Throw it all into a large glass pitcher and you have enough for a day, maybe two.
