Just my two cents here. I think AHCC is a pretty good immune booster, but I have to point out that the best case studies one AHCC site could report merely showed improvement in viral load instead of a reduction to a normal level:

I personally would be looking for something, preferably an entire protocol, that had evidence of much better results.

This is a reply to # 1,280,382I am not terribly familiar with his protocol, although it looks like a similar approach to restoring the liver and beating Hep-C with a different mix of botanicals. It certainly can get expensive at up to $1630.45 for a one month supply of maximum level treatment with the items he recommends - and sells.
Oleander extract by itself usually beats and controls Hep-C. Add to that the colloidal silver, a herb mix that has also been virtually 100% successful and the measures I recommend for cleansing, protecting and regenerating the liver - including the three anti-oxidants used in the Berkson clinical trial - and I think you have an even more potent mix at a fraction of the cost.
Note: oleander is a highly toxic plant in raw form and should not be taken in any form unless in a patented medicine, proven herbal supplement (such as Sutherlandia OPC), or home remedy made according to exact instructions as detailed elsewhere on this site or at http://www.tbyil.com/articles.htm.

This is a reply to # 1,277,525PCR (viral load)has nothing to do with determining the risk or progression of fibrosis. The best way of confirming fibrosis is a biopsy. And yes, fibrosis can be stopped, and even possibly reversed. There are many excellent herbs to treat hepatitis including andrographis, phyllanthus, picrorrhiza, turmeric, etc. Some herbs are also fibrolinics, such as bupleurum.
There are numerous problems with the PCR test, especially when it comes to accuracy. As far as my comment about not showing viral levels the easiest way to explain this is through the basic explanation of how it works. In a nutshell, the test takes small segments of genetic material and replicates the material over and over until it reaches detectable levels. In short the more replication cycles the higher the viral load. The less amplification the lower the viral load. So if they want to scare you in to a therapy then your viral load will be higher. If they want you to think that the treatment is working then your viral load can be made to appear lower. Again, this is an effecitve sales tool, but hardly diagnostic.- Re: AHCC for HCV preachervbc

I currently am under the care of three doctors,one general practitioner who does my blood work for me, he actually knows very little about HCV and seems to actually listen to my thoughts concerning treatment. The other is a hepatologists which did my biopsy and requested interferon after biopsy showed stage three fibrosis. He actually told me that my genotype 1b was very difficult to treat and left the option to treat up to me. I Chose not to take treatments and now see a natropath who has me on Astragalus 500mg 3x a day,Schizandra 500mg 3x a day, Healthy liver which contains milk thistle,alpa lipoic acid, and selenium among other things. She also recommended AHCC 2grams a day. I juice reguarly and eat little red meat,sugar,salt,fat ext.
I know one can feel good while the liver is still in poor condition,I have just chosen to do the best I can and hope for a cure.I am 50 years old, had HCV for 29 years. I received blood transfusions as a result of gunshot wound to the heart after being abducted in the city of Atlanta. I'll not bother readers with the details. Needless to say, the blood was tainted and along with the gift of life (blood transfusions) I recieved the dragon.
I have heard that viral load and ast, alt measurements are not an accurate measurement of progression or degression of disease. But after 6 months on this treatment, my viral load went from 5,000,000 to 133,000 and ast and alt were back in normal range. I know HCV is a "smart virus" and is beleived to mutate once attacked effectively and that is why we often must change effective treatments.
I was curious about ahcc because I have not seen it mentioned on any forums.
By the way, I have been reading forums on HCV for three years and this is the first time I have ever posted. I am currently setting up a personal blog for heppers to tell thier stories.

. The LDN is the only drug that I have ever wanted to take. It increases your body's natural production of endorphins and enkephalins, which direst and mobilize the immune system. The key is a homeopathic dose, which has no toxicity, even to the liver, and no side effects. You should check out the website. This is the first truly effective immunomodulator I have ever seen, supplement or drug.
By the way, good move not doing the interferon. It may clear the virus from half of the people, but it leaves all of them screwed up healthwise, whether cured of hep c or not. The LDN is great, because if it is used along with a clean diet and great supplements, the worst case scenario is that it doesn't clear up the virus, but instead just powers up and corrects your immune system to function at a high level.
It appears that AHCC stimulates the immune system as well. Getting the viral load down is good. But the key is eliminating inflammation and reversing fibrosis. Alpha lipoic will stop the inflammation and phosphatidyl choline will reverse fibrosis, but diet is very important in addition to the supplements. Eliminating steatosis is key for inflammation, and that can best be done by eating a very low fat diet and exercise.

This is a reply to # 1,278,664Those are some very good choices for herbs. I am a big fan of schisandra berries for a number of reasons. Schisandra is very supporting to the adrenals, liver and kidneys. It is also a great source of polysaccharides, which help activate white blood cells. Astragalus will increase white blood cell counts and activity. Milk thistle is not a liver cleanser, as is commonly believed, but actually locks up liver cell receptors blocking the damaging effects of toxins on the liver. Milk thistle also helps stimulate liver regeneration. Use the seed, not the leaf. All are very safe and readily available.
In addition I recommend licorice root, which also supports the liver and adrenal glands, is antiviral, is a steroidal anti-inflammatory (hepatitis means inflamamtion of the liver), and increases interferon levels naturally. Turmeric is aqually effective as milk thistle in protecting the liver, but is a stronger anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory than milk thistle. It is also strongly antitumor through a number of mechanisms.
AHCC is a mushroom extract, that contains among other things polysaccharides. Polysaccahrides are found in a large number of herbs that are less expensive and readily avaialble including astragalus, schisandra, all medicinal mushrooms, seaweeds, aloe, etc.- Re: AHCC for HCV preachervbc

This is a reply to # 1,282,072Thanks to all who have responded to my question. I will give consideration to all advice given. The AHCC is very expensive. One thing that I have noticed is that when I come off the AHCC for any length of time My lymph nodes under my jaw ten to get tender. It seems as long as I am on the AHCC this does not happen. I have read that there may be a higher risk of lymphoma in those with HCV.
I am due some lab work and and will let others know if there is an improvement or not with current protocol.

This is a reply to # 1,282,136Lymphoma is viral in origin. Antiviral herbs like andrographis and pau d' arco not only help treat hepatitis, but also help to kill EBV, which is linked to lymphoma.
