Yeah it seems the democrats talk about religion more than republicans now. The roles have reversed now. Further showing the republicans have lost their way.
Raised Episcopalian, McCain now attends a Baptist megachurch in Phoenix. But he has not been baptized. In McCain’s case, he's facing a Democratic nominee Barack Obama who is not only a regular churchgoer unlike McCain, but also accustomed to discussing the role faith plays in his life.
Gary Bauer, one of McCain's close friends says "When the topic does come up on the campaign trail, McCain is apt to circle back to the crucible he and his comrades lived through in Hanoi. In particular, he’s fond of telling a story about one of his North Vietnamese captors, who one night loosened the ropes tying him together."
“On Christmas, that same guard approached me, and without saying a word, he drew a cross in the sand,” McCain recounted in a powerful ad that aired over the holidays.
Gary Bauer admits, "Though compelling, the anecdote also reinforces McCain’s INABILITY to discuss his own religious beliefs.
“He’s taken some guff for that, because some in the audience say, 'Well, that tells me more about the guard’s faith".
"I don’t recall us talking specifically about our faith,” says Orson Swindle, one of McCain’s closest friends and a fellow POW. “We talked about our friends, families, our resistance posture, and that our country didn’t seem to have the will to win.”
Speaking of POW's, I heard at least one of the POW's that was there with McCain saying he thinks McCain was a spinless snitch. I'm also not sure if McCain even knows what denom he is. I think he's just spiritual if anything. Read below.
"Republican presidential candidate John McCain said Monday (Sept. 17th) that questions over whether he identifies himself as a Baptist or an Episcopalian are not as important as his overarching faith."
The comment came after a weekend during which McCain corrected an Associated Press reporter who asked him how his Episcopalian faith plays a role in his campaign and his life. While it's well-known that McCain and his family for years have attended the North Phoenix Baptist Church in his home state of Arizona, the senator had consistently referred to himself in media reports as Episcopalian.
In a June interview with McClatchy Newspapers, the senator said his wife and two of their children have been baptized in the Arizona Baptist church, but he had not. "I didn't find it necessary to do so for my spiritual needs," he said.
In May, McCain's campaign identified his religion to The Associated Press as Episcopalian, but noted his four younger children are Baptists and he attends the North Phoenix Baptist Church when at home.
McCain grew up Episcopalian and attended an Episcopal high school in Alexandria, Va. On Monday, he spoke briefly about that history and about the Baptist church he now attends. Then, after saying his overall faith is what's important, he concluded: "I don't have anything else to say about that issue."
Ok so let me try and get this straight. He was raised Episcopalian, but he's not one, except sometimes. It probably depends on which donomination is the prevailing one for what ever state he's in, or his campaign doesn't know which one Mcain will say he is that day. Maybe it depends on which way the wind is blowing that day, who knws. But in his latest story he's a Baptist but he's not baptized and doesn't think he needs to be. The only religious experience he talks about is that old crusty story about being captured, which only shows the guards faith was greater than his. Sounds like the typical republican, using religion for political gains to me. We have the "christian" bush giving "the one finger victory salute" and calling the constitution "nothing but a God damn piece of paper" and lying about everything under the sun, and McCain's not sure what he is, and doesn't think he needs to be baptized, and his "inabliity to discuss his own religious beliefs" and doesn't "have anything else to say about that issue".
All I can say is the Bible says to judge the tree by it's fruit, and the trees are barren it seems. All I see is the pot calling the kettle black. Typical politics. They'll sell their souls to get elected and people are falling for it. S.O.S. different day.
