I understand what Lapis/MH are saying, but it's also true that many people have gotten relief with milk thistle, because it's also a liver *decongestant*. It will restore liver damage in folks with hepatitis & cirrhosis (and the extract IS prescribed by MDs for that...not that 'that's' any recommendation...as the extract just isn't as effective as the ground whole seed). But when Lapis says it a "liver detoxer", he's a bit off the mark (rare for Lapis). Milk thistle is a slight decongester, a cell RESTORER and a healing plant...it doesn't necessarily "detox" the cells in the liver. If it did, those with cirrhosis and hepatitis (that haven't changed their diets and flushed their livers) would be in a WORLD of hurt.
I read the original poster's initial post, and while it seems he/she narrowed the issue down to milk thistle, the posters reaction was very unusual/uncommon...and leads me to believe he/she might have been taking an extract of milk thistle, and not organic ground seeds (which is VERY common in most liver supplements)...as the typical dose of ground seeds is 1-3 tablespoons (and that would be 20-60 capsules). And isolated extracts just aren't the same as including all the various phytochemicals that Nature included with the plant. A LOT of folks get into trouble with extracts, when they don't have any problem with 'whole plant' supplementing.
Dr. Schulze has milk thistle in his liver tincture that folks do along with the 5 day flush, and I've taken milk thistle (tincture and ground seeds) when I had liver flukes (but didn't know I had liver flukes), and my liver was extremely congested then...and I gained IMMENSE relief from using it.
So, I think the OPs reaction was fairly unusual...and we all know that MH rarely recommends anything he doesn't sell - even though Dr. Christopher (&
Dr. Schulze ) used it to assist the liver to decongest, rebuild & heal (MH is forever swearing he strongly believes in the works of Dr. Christopher, but there's many things MH says and does and recommends that go directly against Dr. Christopher's teaching and successful methodology).
Anyway, I'm not trying to say it was wrong to poing out that thread, I just wanted to add to it so folks had more information to consider and learn from.
Healthiest of blessings (always!)
