Have you ever tried other cultural foods?
I heard that the mediteranian diet is quite healthy. I myself really enjoy Japanese foods, and I am learning new recipes to help break the monotony of salad.
I also really enjoy Greek food. And I have learned that a Greek salad is a fantastic alternative to the same ol'salad.
Other ways I change my salads, is I put different greens into it. I like spinach, and different cabbages, and sprouts and oh, whatever I seem to want to throw in. Then I smother it with Lemon Juice and some olive oil (extra virgin, of course) add some feta, avacado, Kalamata olives, and mmmmmmmm...its delicious!
Try some japanese soups...add wasabi for some flare. I just love wasabi!
I learned to make Gyoza. (Japanese stuffed noodle) And I altered the recipe a bit and I put in fresh spinach, cabbage, ground turkey or tofu, fresh garlic, ginger, shredded carrots, water chestnuts, minced bamboo, green onion and a dab of sesame oil. These are really really delicious and the noodle can be stuffed with most anything to your taste. Its fried in a dab of peanut oil, on one side for a couple minutes, then add water and steam it for another couple minutes and its done. There is a dipping sauce that I make to go with it!
I like trying different types of rices, I am suprised how many are so delicious all on their own.
Well, I dont know if this gives you some ideas, but I do encourage you to try and step out of the all american diet. There really are some fantastic foods out there, just waiting for you to discover them!
Have you ever been to an asian market?
